How to Increase your Life Force (Prana)

Have you ever walked past someone and felt immediately attracted to them? You can’t rationally explain it but it seems the person has a certain glow. Although you might not even find the person good looking, you somehow can’t take your eyes off of them. There is just something, you can’t exactly put your finger on it but you feel it. The attraction you feel might be because that person has very high prana.

The word prana has its roots in the Sanskrit language and means life force, or vital energy. The term is used in yoga and Hindu philosophy, but you can find a variety of different words with similar meaning. It is known as “qi” or “chi” in Chinese culture, “mana” in Hawaiian culture or “lüng” in Tibetan Buddhism. It can also be compared to “the force”, the energy field that connects all living things in the galaxy, from the famous Star Wars franchise.

Now that we know more about prana and what it is, let’s look at how we can learn to gather and hold more prana in our system. According to Vedanta scriptures and ancient greek culture, there are five elements in nature: water, fire, earth, wind, and ether (space). Let’s see how they related to prana.

Earth

  • Earthing - contemplate earth’s landscape; touch the earth (vitamin B12 can be gotten from touching rich soil); sit on the earth; walk barefoot.
  • Food - eat healthy fresh food from the earth (ideally vegetarian); try to eat meals that have been cooked in the last 18 hours.

Water

  • Drink pure water (tap water has fluoride);
  • Bathe in the ocean and rivers.

Fire

  • Go outside for sunshine every day (skin absorbs vitamin D from the sun);
  • Sungazing.

Wind

  • Breath fresh air;
  • Do breathing exercises (pranayama);
  • Try to keep awareness on the breath throughout the day (abdominal breathing).

Ether

  • Silence builds a lot of prana (hard to do in society);
  • Repetition of mantra;
  • Sublimation of sexual energy (brahmacharya);
  • Being in positive environments (satsang);
  • Positive thinking practices and meditation;

The reality we see today on earth is the result of our collective intention. Each of us has the ability to manifest intention into reality, but not all of us have the same degree of capacity in doing so. Our co-creative potential is proportional to the prana we have. The more prana you have available to you, the easier it is to materialize intentions.
