Too Much Rice Consumption is Dangerous

Rice is Filipinos’ staple food. It’s hard to imagine myself eating a meal without rice. I’ve tried having bread for breakfast like today, but it felt really different without rice for breakfast, my energy is not enough with bread alone.

The rice consumption should be balanced, if the intake is too much it can cause hypertension, diabetes and heart disease. The recommended rice intake each meal for females is one cup, which is equivalent to 200 grams (240 calories). Males’ recommended intake is half cup more than females. Others might consume more than the recommended consumption because of the nature of their work. Some workers with more physical activities needs more energy. And in my opinion, it’s okay for them to eat a bit more. But, overweight people must watch out their rice intake because they are more prone to diabetes and heart problems.

There are some alternative for rice like bread, potato, sweet potato, etc. Fruits and vegetables can also be an alternative for rice from time to time as it also contain nutrients that can are found in rice. Choose fruits and vegetables that are rich in fiber and is very helpful in lowering our cholesterol level. If you can’t really avoid eating rice, brown rice is the best alternative but it’s pricy.

Yes, I definitely agree with you @Sn0white!! Consumption of rice is likely safe but eating white rice in excess amount on a daily basis can boost high risk for developing type 2 diabetes and obesity. That's why a balanced diet should be maintained.

Anything, not just rice, taken in excess is dangerous. So basically, there should be balance in whatever food we take. 😊

For me it depends on the variety of rice being over consumed. Definitely not all varieties are that harmful
