The Underrated #3; Today's Pick List

in #health6 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone,

Every day, the number of people who joined Steemit has been increasing and so does the rate of turnover. People came with a different expectation, and when they became disappointed with what they achieved in comparison to what they expect they could achieve, they just quit. I have seen a few times, how great authors, who produced high-quality contents, gave up after a few articles, suggesting they started to realise how difficult it is to succeed in this platform. Well, it is difficult but when you are in a community, especially those who appreciate the quality of your article, it becomes easier. I couldn't help but noticed, people started to improve when they were motivated by critics, suggestions and rewards within a specific community.

If you've realised, sometimes, the articles featured in The Underrated were not of a good quality. There are some problems with structuring, referencing and sometimes even the content itself. The Underrated was not created to find a mind-blowing content, here, on Steemit platform. We have a lot of initiatives and communities which have been doing that for the past couple of months/years/whatever; @curie, @qurator, @ocd all of them are committed to search and motivate talented authors by supporting their articles, in the form of an upvote or resteem. @steemstem is a community which has been supporting STEM authors who produced great articles on this platform (related to STEM). They have upvoted thousands of article for the past few years and encourage good blogging attitudes among STEM-related authors (plagiarism free, high quality and unique content).

Let's take a look at another 2 authors which I think can benefit greatly if they were to join the steemstem community. Once again, I have to clarify that, all of the articles listed below were not picked according to any specific criteria (other than they are not plagiarised articles and do not seem to use #steemstem tag). You are most welcome to join the steemstem community by using the tag #steemstem in your STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) related articles. All of the suggestions made in this article were my (@chloroform) personal opinion and if you disagree, you can leave a comment in the comment section below. As always, I'm open to criticism.

@yinxuoge: When you are eating seafood and drinking beer, gout and kidney disease are waving at you.

This author has been publishing lots of science-related article for the past one month with little to no rewards for his work. Some of the information provided might seem superficial but nevertheless, it is a good piece of informative article. There must be some reasons why this particular author hasn't be much successful despite his constant effort at producing a good-quality article. The incidence of gout has been increasing for the past couple of decades despite the efforts taken by governments to reduce the frequency of a recurrent attack that might have been triggered by certain factors.

Even though we knew a lot of information about gout including effective treatment to overcome it, the incidence of gout remains high. One of the factors of getting a recurrent gout attack would be the consumption of purine-rich foods. In a study conducted in 2014 by Yuqing Zhang et al. has found that the consumption of foods which are rich in purines for a period of two days can increase the vulnerability of an individual to a recurrent gout attack by the factor of five.

Some comments and suggestions about the article for the benefit of the author's future articles are:

  • The author should consider adding some more information to the introduction of the article before jumping to the main discussion.
  • Some of the sentences were quite confusing with a few syntax errors in it. The author should skim through the article before clicking the "post" button.
  • The author should utilise the Markdown editing to make the article look more organised. Mini-header, bold words and probably some space between pictures and paragraphs can make it more readable.
  • Cite the article's references
  • Cite the image's reference while ensuring they are not copyrighted
  • Use the tag #steemstem for STEM-related content

@juvyjabian: Immune system can be impaired by psychological stress

In this article, the author wrote about psychoneuroimmunology. This particular field concern whether immune systems are affected by psychological stress which is being implicated in an individual or not. There are a lot of factors that can affect the integrity of our immune system. It is particularly interesting if you (readers) did some reading about immune systems and stress. A study which has been carried out in 2004 has found that an acute exposure to a stressful fight or flight situation, can boost our immune system. Chronic exposure, on the other hand, would impact negatively on the immune system depending on the type of stressors.

Stress can assume an autonomous part in causing disease in a generally solid individual, be that as it may, is less plainly settled. While there is some confirmation that stressful life occasions may expand a man's helplessness to infection, this is a region which needs additional research before authoritative conclusions can be drawn. Besides, it is important to analyze the mechanisms by which stress may work to impact infection.

A few suggestions that I could have made to improve the article's quality would be:

  • Some of the images used in this article were copyrighted. The author should find other images which can be reused. Please refer here if you're not familiar with what I was talking about.
  • The picture's source link should be directed to a page containing some information regarding the original author and license version, not to the homepage of a website.
  • Use the tag #steemstem for STEM-related articles
