Most people feel there's no harm in too much noise when they're dancing out their brain to their favourite jam in a party or a club. Too much noise has a lot of side effects for the health - very serious consequences such as ringing ears as well as vague deafness - which results from not protecting the ear properly against the noise.

Too much noise can interfere with so many aspects of one's life which ranges from concentration to the release of stress hormones etc. The question now is that what counts as too much noise? Well, it's subjective - different bodies of different human being adapt to what they experience over a period of time. Simply put, excessive noise is perceived by the body in different ratios. Noise is said to be too much when it is over 85 decibels.

The only issue is not only about how loud the noise is but also about how consistent it is and when it happens. A research reveals that 30% of youths expose themselves directly or indirectly to over 35 decibels of sound at night.

Let's take a tour through some of the harmful effects of excessive noise which results from loud music.

Excessive noise may lead to hearing loss. Consistently exposing oneself to too much loud music over a long period of time dulls one's hearing, which is often called
noise-induced hearing loss. It is oftentimes caused by excessive noise that is over 85 decibels which is constantly induced for months or years. It could also be caused by a loud gunshot of at about 150 decibels.

Furthermore, excessive noise leads to overproduction of stress hormones. A report discovered that the problem is not only industrial or environmental noise but also social noise such as that from clubs, loud bars or loud headphones. When so many types of noise are combined it leads to a seriously stressed out body.

Generally, humans are a kind of quiet species - exposure to too much sound for a long period of time can be interpreted by the body as a stressor, hence, the body start feeling edgy and over-alert by producing stress hormones.

Also, excessive noise could result in disturbed sleep. Apart from the noise that emerges from the environment which disrupts sleep patterns, the accumulation of stress hormones are also capable of disturbing one's sleep.

It is advisable to reduce one's exposure to loud noise because the side effects would be manifested not once but gradually. In short, prevention is better than cure.
