The heart is one of the body's vital organs-vital because all other tissues and organs depend on the heart's action to provide them with blood. But like every other organ,the heart is subject to disease. Any damage to the heart or its valves can reduce that pumping power, forcing the heart to work harder just to keep up with the body's demand for blood. If the heart stops functioning for only a few minutes, change take place, some of which cannot be repaired.
