The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 4, DTube Video #7

in #hebrew5 years ago (edited)

Welcome to my DTube Hebrew reading & language series.

The full study is now on line covering the Alef-Beyt here in my blog. This is a beginners program to teach letters, vowels, and reading. The vowels are marked in this bible and are designed to help avoid confusion on what a word is and how it is pronounced. The confusion is obvious in the hundreds of interpretations globally.

Today we are continuing in Genesis 4:19-23

Lemech had two wives and the first bore Jabal who was the father of those who lived in tents and kept livestock. Jubal's brother was the father of those who played, and likely invented, musical stringed and wind instruments.

The second wive bore Tubal-cain who forged bronze and iron implements. Then the second murder in history was committed towards the end of today's reading. It may have been in self defense. . . (next lesson)

I will leave this chart up while we are in relative verses.

People were living a good 800-1000 years each.

Getting back to Cain

Last lesson had us reading how Cain settled in the land of Nod. If Adam and his wife took somewhere between 10 and 129 years to have another child, Cain had at least eight hundred years to settle and run a cross some of his relatives.

Today our reading is a welcomed break in the line of who fathered who. It tells us when things came about. As I mentioned last week, if there were people who were dwelling in tents over hundreds of years, they likely ran into Cain, which is where he may have gotten his wife. That burning question.

b’reishith 4:20 .... 4:20 is an interesting number . I wonder what herbal medicines they were using to live so long.... Genesis 4:20.... 4:20 ... living in Tents.

Mark 4:20 ....... Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”

It’s 4:20 am here in Canada...

I've wondered before where Cain got his wife. Could he have already been married when he killed Abel, or did he get a wife after going into his exile?

I also wonder about things like: did he see his parents again? Did he ever sacrifice again?

It's strange to think that people could have been living for 800+ years. Even though death had been introduced to the world, life was still so strong that they lived for almost a millennium! At the point where modern people are dying off, people then were still youngsters.

More wondering: what's it going to be like to live for eternity? :)
