Bahay Kubo is the traditional house in the Philippines. In fact, this is a famous icon of a Filipino culture. Bahay Kubo literally means cube house. The house is designed as a cube with a pyramidal shaped roof. The roof is steep as protection and easily dripping of rainfall. It is made of indigenous materials such as bamboo, anahaw, pawid, rattan, abaka and so on. It is a form of stilt house and mostly eleveated from the ground, river or sea. Old Filipinos didn't use nails in making Bahay Kubo but they make parts of it interlocking. The appearance of Bahay Kubo differs from tribe to tribe. It can be larger, smaller, in the river or sea, and so on.

A Bahay Kubo can be also classified as a greenhouse. Becuase of its component and structure, it has an excellent ventilation inside and the light can pass through its windows. Bahay Kubo is still present in the province and it is also a major influence on the types of houses as history can be told.

Through the span of time and by foreign influence, Filipinos learned to use other more stable materials for Bahay Kubo. Limestones, rocks, lumber, concrete and more.
