Contest Entry : Advice For A Newbie !

The Contest Rules

To enter this contest write an original post outlining what you would let someone new to Steemit know. Again there are many things new users might need to know such as plagiarism rules, account protection, rewards and understanding the different currencies are just a few ideas…

My Advice To A Newbie

I would let a new member know about how hard it is to succeed on Steemit and to not get discouraged when a post that took them hours to construct goes mostly un-notice. I would follow that up with explaining about bid bots and how allot of the crap they see on the trending pages was pushed there because of paid for advertisement, not on merit.

I then would explain the $0.02 threshold of rewards not being paid out unless they hit $0.02 or more. I would give words of encouragement and advise them to compete in contest and giveaways as its the quickest and easiest way to interact with others on the platform.

Lastly I would tell them about The Ongoing Phishing Scam and give some short and to the point advice on how to avoid being scammed such as :

  • Double check any link before clicking on it.
  • Be extra careful with links that take you away from steemit.com.
  • Take note of the reputation of the steemian who's link you are about to click .

While there is much more to learn about Steemit such as SBD / Steem Power and the difference between the two. I think the above will give a newbie enough information and know how to decide if they want to continue on the platform or not and set them in the right direction with the right mind set that will allow them to succeeded here on Steemit.

They can also use other bots but @dustsweeper is a good start.

Good Advice !

For those who don't know the link provided by @mysearchisover is a link to a site that tracks bid bots. The site shows a rough value on the return you will get on your bid at the moment of purchase. Your bids value will decrease as more Steemians send in bids. It's best to bid minutes before a bot sends out bids as it gives you the most chance of seeing if its worth using the bot. You don't want to be paying $2 for $1 vote.

And without @dustsweeper my upvote on your reply would have been a waste of an upvote.

I agree that @dustsweeper is great program.

My tip is to use https://steemd.com/(@username) substituting your user id for (@username) - or anyone's username to see a record of your activities here, also your bandwith and voting power.

If you wonder about a user's comment you can see their posting history. I confirmed a spammer by entering their username and seeing they'd been posting the same comment on dozens of posts.

Awesome advice -- Thanks for commenting !

Good advice especially the phishing warning. Also the $0.02 payout threshold is important to know because it is so frustrating when you are small

The $ 0.02 threshold really is a pain as a newbie. @dustsweeper may be something you and other readers might be interested in to help combat the issue. You send the bot $1 SBD and the bot uses the SBD you sent it to top up any comments past the $0.02 threshold that likey wouldn't of passed the threshold otherwise. The bot only votes on 6 day old comments that have rewards attached to them but not enough for payout.

I joined yesterday.

I checked this out. Love it. Now just need to sweep up $1 SBD and I'm in haha

I think you can send in less then $1SBD ...

$ 1 SBD is the suggested amount.
