Rancher Changes His Mind On Cannabis And Opens His Own Hemp Institute

in #hemp6 years ago (edited)

Rancher John Lyons admits that for most of his life he was against cannabis and was skeptical of the claims that surrounded industrial hemp.

Lyons and his wife (who happens to be a registered nurse) are from Colorado, where they own a 70+ acre farm, that they've now turned into a hemp institute.

He didn't even know that he would be interested in getting involved in the industrial hemp market until only a couple of years ago. Before that, he had plans to retire and put his ranch up for sale.

All of that changed though, when Lyons attended a medical cannabis conference one summer not long ago.

The information that he was exposed to and learned about, ended-up changing his views forever, even his views on retiring.

Their goal now? Is to maintain their ranch as a fully functioning medical hemp research and treatment facility.

With their site they've got plans for a camping facility, educational classes, medical treatment, a spa, assisted living center, and more.

In 2017, they managed to harvest their very first crop which they used to produce CBD oils.

Right now they're offering a wide variety of industrial hemp and CBD oil products, including things like creams, body butter, different oils, tinctures, sugar scrub, bath soak, and more. They've also got some treats for pets with CBD in it and some pet CBD oil available.

Lyons also admits that he and his wife have plans for a research lab, food manufacturing, organic farming, and a hemp retail store.

In the end, it looks like what Lyons hopes that he has created is a sort of center for excellence that will be a place for people to seek education on cannabis, treatment, do research, buy products, and more. Right now, his land is only zoned for industrial hemp businesses however, though that might change in the future.

He's already accomplished quite a lot it seems, despite feeling like at 70 years of age, he's already lived the majority of his life and that his remaining years are limited. Initially, he says that he had a 5 year plan and admits that he sees his age as an advantage, if anything, because it's helping to motivate him to get the project done sooner.

He knows that long after he is gone, that the work he has done is going to be bringing benefit to who knows how many different people, his dream is going to outlive him.

Lyons admits to using CBD oil himself and has seen how it has been able to improve his bad pain and sore joints. He also admits that he has given the oil to his horses (he's trained horses for decades) and says that he's also seen good results with them as well. Lyons now seems to be a firm believer in the amazing potential of this incredible plant.

It's awesome to see Colorado leading the way on this issue in so many facets.

Hemp is perhaps more important than Marijuana in the big scheme of benefits to humanity and the planet as a whole.

I'd love to visit this guy's farm!

Is that last photo from Mr. Lyons facility? Or is it just a random photo? I'm interested in finding out how they grow hemp indoors, and stay profitable.

yup that's his operation, several indoor grows going on

It is amazing to read how more and more people are approaching this product for medicinal purposes, even as they are willing to change a lifestyle after knowing the healing effects.
excellent information dear friend @doitvoluntarily
I wish you a great day

Great informative post. Oh, I so wish that we could have something like that here, I honestly can't see our Irish government doing anything positive anytime soon.
We are now allowed to buy CBD oil which is generally very weak, but a start. Otherwise, it is most difficult to get any medicinal cannabis, which is sorely needed by thousands. Instead, we have to break the law.

I am super interested in the concept and the folklore that surrounds hemp cement. It is super hard to get any concrete (pardon the pun) how to or real true process to produce a reliable product. I have seen enough information from people who produce it but, I have seen a ton of in fighting about how to make it. The benefits from hemp concrete sound like the perfect building solution, but yet it remains a unicorn as it is super elusive to get proper technical data so that a person could actually implore the material to build effective structures...

Love seeing people discover this amazing plant and all can do. Great post!!

=)

An assisted living facility sounds like a dream to me. Working with the geriatric population makes me ever aware of the huge amounts of pharmaceuticals listed to assist with one condition, but on their own or mixing with others, carry extensive side effects that make consistent care more difficult. I am excited to see what the facility develops into; it is and will make improvements upon the quality of life for many, with this vision.

This guy is pulling it off. The dream and in Grand Junction I used to live there. Never did I think something like this would be taking place there!

If only this was more common practice. Its so sad such a versatile and useful crop is deemed illegal. Its great too see this kinda of farm cropping up. I just hope its the first of many 💯🐒

Sounds like this rancher just got "woke".

As more and more people realize the potential of this amazing PLANT they will view the government, especially the DEA and police, with well deserved suspicion.

You consistently bring the best and most interesting things to people's attention. Only wish I had more time to spend reviewing it all. Traveling, blogging, now VLOGGING! lol

It's got me so busy, but it's totally been on my mind to stop by your page and here I am. CBD oil, I tried a free sample of that in market in Florida a few months ago. Very calming effect it had on me. I could feel it was medicine not, a joint to get high off of. Great stuff!

Keep up the excellent work my friend! From Cusco Peru! -Dan
