Through mythology our ancestors gave an explanation in the form of fantasy to the phenomena that could not explain, this way they have written an infinity of stories that have captivated us for years, the same ones that are told from generation to generation do not lose their essence and continue to give mysticism to literature, which in mythology is enriched by fantasy fueled our imagination with stories of a magical world that only exists in our mind.

Each culture has an infinity of mythological stories about the creation of the world, of man, the peoples, natural phenomena and everything that does not have a simple explanation, many of them are sacred and represent the heritage of humanity. On this occasion I will make my narration about one of the most famous Greek legends.

Pandora's box.

After the Titan Prometheus stole a spark of fire to the sun god to give it to the men, Zeus became angry, because he wanted to punish the human race with cold and hunger, the fire given by Prometheus would eliminate the punishment for what he ordered to create a capable woman to seduce any mortal man, Hephaestus made her out of clay and molded a striking body for her, Athena gave her dresses and jewels, Aphrodite gave her beauty, Apollo gave her the ability to play musical instruments and Hermes the messenger of the gods He gave the virtues seduction and manipulation. Zeus called her Pandora, breathed life into her and sent to Epimetheus, brother of Prometheus the benefactor of mortals, as a deceptive gift.

Prometheus warned Epimetheus that Zeus could use any trap to take revenge on the titans and recommended never accept any gift that came from him, however Epimetheus accepted the arrival of Pandora and despite the warning of his brother was captivated by her beauty, he fell deeply in love with her and made her his wife, they lived a perpetual idyll in a spring that lasted all year.

Pandora hid a wafer given by her father Zeus, a golden box with lock that contained all the evils that could contaminate the world and bring misfortune to mortals, but also virtues that men lacked, one of them was hope, consolation of those who suffer, all these elements remained locked in the box without her knowing, Zeus had only instructed her never to open it.

At that time humanity did not know the rancor, anger, vices, diseases, poverty or madness, but neither the good feelings, no one never hurt or aged too much, envy did not exist and therefore there had never been war between men, abundance reigned without greed.

Pandora persuaded by her own curiosity opened the box and all the evils came out of it: illness, old age, madness, fatigue, greed, envy, plague, sadness, poverty, vices and crime spread through the world of man, causing to the earth in ruins and misery over mortals. The goods left the box ascended to Olympus and remained with the gods, the frightened young woman closed the box quickly just when the last of the elements was going to leave, leaving inside the hope that was necessary to help the men overcome the evils.

Pandora realizing the terrible mistake committed and repented of his actions ran to the mortal world to speak to men of that beautiful virtue she could contemplate for a brief moment, she dedicated himself to tell them that there was a possibility of overcoming all the evils called hope, she I had it this time very well guarded to avoid that it escapes and it is lost away from the men, thanks to it the humanity continues finding a nuance of light in the dark and never it is destroyed by the misfortune.

This was my narration of this well-known legend that delights for its truth bathed in fantasy.

I always have mixed feelings about this story. It seems to be saying that curiousity, one of humanity's greatest traits, is a bad thing. If the box was so bad, why not explain to Pandora what was in the box?

I believe the myth is spot on. Beware of WHO brings you a gift and do not let curiosity bring you to your downfall. Allways look for the intentions behind a gift and not the gift itself.

It is not a gift but the consequences.

The purpose of Zeus was for her to open it, he knew that she would.

Wow. I never knew the story, although I've always known about the box and the horrors it contained. Thanks for sharing @breili

It is a fascinating story.

thank you for this great post, it is very charming, I will be greatful if you follow me

I'm glad to have told you.

It's also interesting to note, that the "box" commonly referred to was in fact a jar (the word "box" came as a result of mistranslation). Thanks for sharing!

I did not know that detail, thank you very much.

wow! nice post.it has much curiosity..i love it.

Thanks for coming to read it.

You narrated the story so well am sure I can't believe another, one thing was true in the story though, Pandora is a secret box never to be opened.

Thank you very much for your appreciation.

What a lovely re-telling of the tale of Pandora's box. The photos really added a lot to it, too.
I would upvote, but this post is past its date. I'll watch for some of your other posts. :-)
