| This time I would like to present you this coin from Spain during the dictatorship (1936-1975) of Francisco Franco (1892-1975). Franco came to power via a failed Coup d'état followed by civil war with the support of Portugal, fascist Italy and Nazi Germany. Even after the WWII he managed to stay in power partly because of supporting the political agenda of the U.S. during the beginning of the Cold War. During his reign, hundreds of thousands of political enemies were executed; even more were deported into concentration camps. | Dieses Mal möchte ich euch diese Münze aus Spanien während der Zeit der Diktatur (1936-1975) von Francisco Franco (1892-1975) zeigen. Franco erlangte die Macht durch einen fehlgeschlagenen Staatsstreich, der vom Spanischen Bürgerkrieg gefolgt wurde. Hierbei wurde er von Portugal, Italien und NS-Deutschland unterstützt. Auch nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg schaffte es Franco an der Macht zu bleiben - auch weil er die politische Agenda der USA während der Anfänge des Kalten Krieges unterstützte. Während seiner Herrschaft wurden hunderttausende politische Gegner hingerichtet; noch viel mehr Menschen in Konzentrationslager deportiert. |
| The coin is made of Copper-Nickel, has a diameter of 26.5 mm and weighs 8.5 g. One speciality of the spanish coins from this era (and later) is that the year given on the obverse of the coin (1957) is the year the coin was designed - the actual mintage year is inside a small star shown in the left corner of the reverse (here it's 1970). | Die Münze ist aus Kupfernickel, hat einen Durchmesser von 26,5 mm und wiegt 8,5 g. Eine Besonderheit der spanischen Münzen aus dieser Zeit (und später) besteht darin, dass das Jahr auf dem Avers der Münze (1957) sich auf das Jahr ihres Entwurfs bezieht - das tatsächliche Prägejahr ist in einem kleinen Stern in der linken Ecke des Revers (hier 1970). |
