| Today I'm showing this old tourist picture from the Grand Place (or Groote Markt in Dutch) in Brussels, Belgium. The place, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998, consists of buildings of various historical architectural styles. The most impressive building, the town hall (pictured on the left) was originally built between 1401 to 1421. The bombardment of Brussels by order of Louis XIV (the french "Sun King") in 1695 resulted in heavy destruction of the Grand Place. It was rebuilt in the years after, resulting in the current state. | Heute zeige ich Euch dieses alte Touristenfoto vom Grand Place (oder Groote Markt auf Niderländisch) in Brüssel, Belgien. Der Platz, seit 1998 eine UNESCO Welterbestätte, besteht aus Gebäuden verschiedener historischer architektonischer Stile. Das beeindruckendste Gebäude, das Rathaus (links zu sehen) wurde ursprünglich zwischen 1401 und 1421 errichtet. Durch die Bombardierung von Brüssel auf Befehl von Louis XIV (der französische "Sonnenkönig") im Jahr 1695 kam es zu schweren Zerstörungen des Grand Place. Er wurde in den darauffolgenden Jahren wieder aufgebaut und erhielt sein heutiges Aussehen. |
| I assume the photo was taken around 1920-1940. A comparison with a more current picture from Wikipedia reveals not too much change for the historical buildings... the main difference seems to be that parking for limousines is no longer allowed. ;) | Ich vermute, dass das Foto zwischen 1920 und 1940 entstanden ist. Ein Vergleich mit einem aktuellen Foto von Wikipedia zeigt nicht allzu viele Veränderungen bei den historischen Gebäuden... der Hauptunterschied scheint das neue Parkverbot für Limousinen zu sein. ;) |
