Old Bar

The old bar is a suburb in the town of Bar, a seaside town in the south of Montenegro. By the beginning of the 20th century, it was the only settlement, and later a settlement was built on the territory of today's city. During his history, he was part of Byzantium, Venice, the Serbian medieval state, and the Ottoman Empire. In 1878, this city was liberated after the siege, and since then it is part of Montenegro.

The symbol of this settlement is the fort. It has been destroyed several times during history, the last time in the 1979 earthquake.

Fortress is mainly in ruins, but some facilities are partially preserved and some have been restored. In any case, there are various historical clues and numerous cultural sights here.

Of the cultural sights of Venetian period we have Bastion next to the tower from the 15th century, the restored church of St. Mary and the remains of the monastery of St. Nicholas.

The Church of St. John of Vladimir, which was rebuilt in 1927, was built in the period of the Serbian medieval state.

There are many sights, but they are in ruins and their reconstruction is planned. From the renovated I will mention the 15th century palace as well as the summer stage in which the summer school of mosaics is held.

From the fortress there is a beautiful view on the landscapes of Mountain Rumija.
