North and South Korea reunification, is this history repeating itself (Germany Berlin Wall)

The news around the June 12th summit in Singapore between Grand Marshall Kim Jong-Un and American President Donald Trump was, even if it ends up meaning nothing in forty years, a great symbolic handshake from the West to Asia, and something that further unites us.

Already, speculation has risen around the development of North Korea, in the fields of IT, Real Estate and importing, (https://npr.org/2018/06/08/618204107/real-estate-jumps-in-chinese-city-bordering-north-korea).

Which is all great news for the Korean people…

But…

The Reunification of Germany Happened when I was just a boy. It is arguably still incomplete.

In 2014, just a few years ago, the Unemployment rate in the former East Germany was 9%, while former West Germany was at 5.6% (http://fortune.com/2014/9/11/germany-east-west-economy) .

Archaic and backwards systems, such as Communism and Socialism, that themselves go totally against human nature, take a long time to eradicate.

Despite the troubles, and themselves now much less than they were at the fall of the Wall, Germany is economically prosperous and strong, holding perhaps the supreme position within the EU and having the most robust economy in Western Europe.

And now the attention shifts to North Korea.

The Hermit Kingdom has long been isolated – aside from a few news reports here and there about how much they hate America and the development of their nuclear program, they’ve been a non-factor. Following the rise of Eastern Bloc Communism after the end of World War II, Leverage – in the form of lands and ports, became crucial in the Cold War battle of Capitalism vs. Communism (which thankfully Capitalism won). The Americans had finished fighting the Korean War in 1953, separating the rival factions and instituting the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).

1953 was 65 years ago.

Will everything all change? It will, but given how the people of North Korea (North Korea has a higher population than Australia) have been raised and conditioned, it will take time.

If you have a few bucks to throw in and some good connections, I would go in on North Korea, if not I would keep an eye on it.

What progress will be made?

If in 28 years, North Korea has less than twice the unemployment of South Korea, it’s a win, and not just for them, but for the world.
