Gold in Buddhism part 1

in #history5 years ago (edited)

Exploring Tibet was eye opening in the way of architectural excellence. The composition of the various planes and buildings that formed eye catching landmarks were luxurious yet auspicious. This made me realise for a moment that there was much to be explored in the way of material choices. Many of the buildings throughout Tibet featured warm and brighter colours with brighter reds, whites and other vibrant colours creating areas of energy. However, what I came to notice was the heavy presence of gold that was present in the various auspicious buildings. Whether it was a temple, monastery or other religious hub, the most eye-catching buildings would rise high up on the terrain and display a significant presence of gold.

This made me realise that there is indeed a meaning and importance of gold in the Buddhist faith. Aside from the fact it is a precious commodity and oozes luxury, there is much in the way of symbolism.
