Gold in Buddhism II

in #history5 years ago

In the Buddhist religion in particular, it is through to symbolise the sun. The source of energy and pure brilliance is never mixed with other colours or elements, it is considered as a purity that must be maintained. I came to know that the gold that is used within the buildings of the Tibetan places of worship were of absolute purity. When travelling around, its an amazing realisation to see how beautiful the golden structures and statues radiate their presence. Many of the statues in Tibet are made of pure gold and the country dedicates much of its resources to maintain this consistency across the country to ensure the best craftsmanship and materials are used. Visiting these beautiful sites was eye opening and I was in awe most of the time when laying eyes on the various towers and statues.

Aside from buildings, gold finds it ways in various relics and artefacts. I came a cross a number of smaller golden artefacts around the temples and monasteries which instantly caught my eye. Gold in Buddhism consistently holds a level of importance and links directly to mysticism. Many of the normal statues that are not made of pure gold will be painted in gold. Depictions of Buddhist deities will also be made with various golden materials. While gold symbolises the sun, a source of energy, there is a deeper meaning that many can explore to see elements of purity, happiness, knowledge and enlightenment.
