Western Civilization in the Rilics of Shilla Dynasty

in #history6 years ago

There are several stories about that Shilla had had a contact with western civilization.

In the museum, I could find out some relics which could be witnesses about the acceptance of western civilization in Shilla dynasty.

It is interesting to find the statue which can be thought as the western appearance.

The western features in the statue were mainly having the appearance of warrior.

May be at the age of Shilla dynasty, the westerns who had visited Shilla seemed to be very brave and strong people.

It is believed that the western people who had visited Shilla Dynasty was Persian.

Do you imagine that Persians had crossed the sea and arrived at Shilla more than 2 thousands years ago. It is unbelievable they had sailed from Persia to Shilla.

Excluding Persia, Shilla had had a close contact with India and Vetnam.
When we thought the location of Shilla was located in the far end of Korean peninsular, the fact that Shilla had had an active contact with Pesia was a kinds of enigma.

In the history book, I couldn’t read that Back Jae and Goguyeo had a close contact with the western civilization like Shilla.

We should confirm that Persian at that time was not a Muslim State. As you know, Persia was a very civilized country at that time.

The relics which were believed to be influenced from Persia were as below.

The lion statue was as same as that of Persian.

In some point of view, the lion statue seemed to be influence by Greek civilization.

Actually there were no lions in Korean peninsular.
Koreans at that time hardly could watch a lion.
How they made the statue what they couldn’t watch.

Other figure statue also seemed a western people.
The hair and face are as same as the western people.

The culture and civilization have developed through the exchange.
It is still unknown how Shilla could have an active contact with western civilization.
But one thing obvious was this active contact with other civilization was a source of the power of Shilla dynasty.

In geopolitica perspective, Shilla was the most disadvantageous country among 3 countries.
In my opinion, Shilla had overcome the disadvantage with the active acceptance of foreign civilizations.

Isn't it amazing you could find this kind of western style relics in the far east.
There were more active contact in ancient world than we thought.

I hope to find out more evidences of the contact with the western civilization during my trip in Gyeongju.

Thank you for reading.

Very interesting post. Thank you!

It is incredible how such things are able to withstand the test of time and survive through the chaos of centuries all happening around it
Thank you for sharing this thought inspiring trip @slowwalker

Hello @Slowwalker.

I am into history myself, but in my case my studies for the most have been the Norwegian and European timeline.
Have been touching Japanese and China, but I must say that Korean history are quiet new to me.
So maybe I will have to look at it a bit more.
I guess they must have an interesting story to tell since they have been more or less surrounded by a lot of the superpowers from the ancient time.
How do you become to know so much about it? Are you from Korea?

Kindest regards
@Gyldenhorn

Yes, I am Korean.
Korean culture was a source of Japanese culture in ancient time.
Especially Baek Jae Dynasty was the beginning of King family in Japan.

I did not know that.
Have starting to do some research around it now
Thank you for the tip.

I never had time to go to museums but due to your posts I am learning a lot about history, thanks for sharing!

We still do not know much about the ancient world, he hides a lot of mysteries. Thank you for trying to reveal at least some of these riddles!
