Original 1896 US Presidents McKinley/Roosevelt Campaign Pin

As a collector of US President Campaign pins, this is one of my favorites from the late 1800’s. The two men pictured are William McKinley (R), and Theodore Roosevelt Jr(R). President McKinley was assassinated on September 6, 1901 in Buffalo, New York by an anarchist. He was shot twice in the abdomen. McKinley died six days later on September 14 of gangrene as a result of the gunshot wounds. He was the third American president to be assassinated.

President McKinley’s Vice-President Theodore Roosevelt, was then sworn in as the 26th President. Roosevelt became the youngest president at age 42. Roosevelt went on to serve an additional 4 year term. He was a soldier, naturalist, author, Republican and a very popular president.
