RE: Canadians Commemorating D-Day 75 Years Later -- We Must Remember

in #history5 years ago (edited)
This is a wonderfully-written post. I thought one of the more moving parts of it is your description:

An honour guard of Canadian Armed Forces members marched across the beach. They came to a halt, turning to face the assembled D-Day veterans. The veterans of today coming face to face with the veterans of yesterday who made it possible for them to be there in peace and freedom.

I could imagine this in my mind, easily, the way you described it, and my heart was warmed that over half — 38 of an estimated 60 — surviving veterans of Juno Beach were able to attend the ceremony. The trio of the songs "Last Post" – "Lament" – "Rouse" sounds quite striking and a most fitting component of the solemnity. I also enjoyed our after-chat following PYPT where I was able to learn more about the people involved, and other aspects of your lovely country and its government.
