HELLO Steemians! Allow me to be your tourist guide today 😉

It's been a long time to be with you guys. Just got a little busy these past few weeks

I'm going to share and trip you guys to one of the beautiful spots in Cebu, Philippines which is the "MUSEO SUGBO" where you can able to understand, be amazed and experience the beauty beyond the history or origin of this friendly place CEBU.

HISTORY

During the early period of American people, This place was also served as a stable for horses for competitions but eventually being used again as a prison for the city of Cebu before. Base on some research, this place is also a witnessed of tragedy we filipino's experienced during Japanese regime and colonizations. Japanese also imprisoned some guerillas before and are being tortured into death.

Museo Sugbo is actually placed in what we called once before Cárcel de Cebú or the CPDRC, the provincial jail of Cebu City before. By the way Carcel means Prison or jail in spanish.

The Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) was being transferred to a bigger and more modern place of detention and rehabilitation. Instead of demolishing the place, the Cebu government made a decision to make it have purpose for something then they have decided to make it a museum since the place looks historical and old.

This place and architecture was designed by domingo de Escondrillas and built on 1871. It was also believed that one of the materials being used to make this architecture is the coral stones from the demolished parian church of Cebu. This is an evidence to show that the people at this time are making used of small things instead of wasting and shows that they are really in need and lack of materials or money before.💕

What's inside the Museum?

At a first look at the entrance of this place, you can actually thought that it was just a small place of rooms of displayed historical materials and artifacts but is actually big inside.

There were also many rooms inside and artifacts. Those rooms are actually being divided according to the era of a certain artifacts being discovered.

Showing the area is the first thing I can do as your tourist guide for today. But showing these things is not enough to complete your experience as my guests here 😀 ,so allow me my dear guests/friends to bring you inside and show you the beauty behind those rooms you saw recently. So in this case I'm going to merge those rooms into atleast 3 rooms as for now 😀.

First room 🚪 ( Pre-Colonial Period)

This room basically contains about the artifacts of our ancestors in cebu and on how they live their lives base on their utensils and things being used.

What will you learn inside the 1st room?

✅Know the different utensils being used by our ancestors before

✅what is the basis of wealth or level in the society of our ancestors

✅What exactly their kind of living before

(Ancestral things way back 1500 in Cebu)

▶ This axe has been used to cut some meat of animals by cebuano ancestors after hunting in the forest. This is also believed that our filipino ancestors always have this axe on their side just in case of a sudden attack of enemies for teritorial occupation or extension.

▶ These are not just normal stones. These stones are being discovered by some professional archaeologists here in cebu. They have found out that the axe above has a big possibility made up of one of these stones. The characteristics of these stones are hard enough to cut flesh of animals and can be used as a weapon for any situations if properly refined and enhanced.

▶ As what you can see in the picture's description, this thing was being used as a burial accompaniment for those people living in coastal settlements. We can also observe that they are obviously living like in a stone age where they actually made utensils and things from the environment specially from stones and muds.

▶ Basically these things was found beside the skeletons of our filipino ancestors. Obviously these things are knife or any thing which is somehow very useful on their everyday living. These could also be used to cut meat of their captured animals and even being used in farms for digging soils and planting.

▶ At this period, people started making untensils for their own home and some of them for exchange (Barter) to some goods. These jars are basically made-up of mud or clay which is being dried under the heat of the sun. We actually see and observed that people at this era becomes more creative and productive.

▶ This object is not common to everyone. Usually this kind of thing originated purely in countries which farming is one of the source of living. This object is usd to filter unnecessary grains of rice. This is very helpful to secure health from avoiding those rotten grains of rice from eating. At this time people usually now depends on the usefullness of trees around specially bamboo trees.

▶ People obviously make things from their environment before. As you can see this house is totally made-up of bamboo tree because they knew that bamboo tree is strong enough to withstand any environmental calamity specially typhoons.

▶ This thing is being used in burial by our ancestors in Cebu. In Pre-Colonial Period, like other groups in southeast asia, they believed that the soul traveled to heavens through a boat at a specific times after they have died. Hence, the shape of this coffin is like a boat and archaeologists found this thing with bones inside not just by only one person but many bones.

▶ This thing is called GOLD-PEGGED TEETH. It is believed that this thing seems like being used as a decoration for the body and the gold symbolizes wealth and level in the society. It is also believed that those teeth being gathered are from their love one's serves as a remembrance from their existence in the earth and as part of the family.

Second room 🚪 (Spanish-Colonial Period)

In our country, one of the source of income and food is farming. I know farming here is not just for its own country but as well as it is for other country through exporting rice and other vegetables and fruits. In this room i will show you the different tools in farming and specific uses of those tools in the field of agriculture.

What will you learn inside the 2nd room?

✅The readers will understand and see the different materials being used in 1800s

✅Learn what society in 1800s looks like

▶ This thing/tool is used for grinding rice in order to separate the unnecessary grains of rice. It is made-up of lime stones from the environment which is being refined so well for this special purposes in agriculture.

▶ It is a manual cotton gin. This is used to plain the cotton they gathered preparation to make a clothes or fabric.

▶This tool looks the same as the rice miller i shared above but they are actually the same in purpose but not for the same specific application. The rice mill in the picture above is just for purely separating unnecessary grains from rice but this tool in the current picture is used to grind a glutinous rice (PILIT) in making rice cakes (bibingka).

▶ This tool is a wooden plow which is called "daro" in bisaya dialect. This wooden plow were dragged by the carabaos to prepare the land to be a perfect soil in planting.

▶ This tool has 2 parts. The first part is the rectangular wood below which serves as a base and also called "rectangular lusong" used in pounding rice while the second part is the straight wood (Upright circular Lusong) in the center which serves as a mortar in pounding the rice.

Third room 🚪 (Indigenous religious belief )

This room atually contains different reiligious belief of our ancient people in Cebu. We all know that religion in the philippines is marked by a majority of people being the follower of christian faith but today I'm going to tour you guys to the evidences how people or our ancestors in colonial period pray and worship Gods.

What will you learn inside the 3rd room?

✅ The viewers will learn how filipino ancestors worship Gods

✅ What are their ways to worship Gods

▶ Religion is one of the most important part of every person before specially to our filipino ancestors. These things here are being collected by some professional collectors and archaeologists and being preserved for years in remembering the beauty of life before.

This room is actually new and exclusive for this ancient wooden human architectures of their Gods before. This things here are mostly "Anito" (A filipino term for this wooden human like architectures) and tribal tools and accessories. Our filipino ancestors worship Gods by praising these human like ancient woods because they believe Gods will help them in any situations and give them blessings in terms of agriculture.

Base on the picture, you can directly conclude what kind of life they have before. They actually live like a hunters in the forest with their equipments and weapons. In the picture you can see Axes and bow. These two things is their basic equipments and weapons in defending their own are or land from colonizers and wild animals around.

The picture above is just a miniature of certain activity where we can see the actual life of our ancient ancestors before. As you can see, their life before is very simple and only reminds us that the life styles of our ancestors are uncomplicated. These artifacts and tools before are big evidence to prove that our ancestors are really creative and contented on what they have. Tho innovations are still important, we also need to appreciate the beauty of the past and preserved it to amaze the next generation.

Fourth room 🚪 (The War in Cebu )

What will you learn inside the 4th room?

✅ Learn the history behind the war in Cebu

War in Cebu by the Colonizations of Japanese and spaniards is one of the historical happenings in our City. Tho we can say that this colonization is a tragedy to some filipino, they also contribute good to our economy to bloom/grow faster and be competitive.

In this room, when you go up, it actually makes you Goosebumps and strange feeling really surrounds you.

I also learn here that during the war, Lion Kilat, one of Cebu's revolutionary leaders, wore an something a lucky charm amulet or called in bisaya an "anting-anting or agimat". They also believed that the text on his vest (a latin inscriptions and catholic religious text ) are said to be his protection from bullets.

This area was on the same floor, These things are Japanese weapons and equipments during World War II which are being kept here and preserved. I felt sadness a little bit here because these are the weapons and equipments used by Japanese soldiers that make many filipinos suffers and experienced hardship in their lives. These weapons also being used to kill guerillas who opposed their colonization activities in the philippines.
