1520 - Massacre of Calacoaya, the invading armies of Hernán Cortés attack by surprise the Mexica town of Calacoaya, this being the second military action of Cortés in his campaign for the Conquest of Mexico.

1916 - first football match for the future Copa América between the national teams of Uruguay and Chile. Uruguay won 6-0. It took place in Buenos Aires.

1956 - in the Enewetak Atoll (Marshall Islands, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean), the United States detonates the atomic bomb Dakota (name of an ethnic group of Native Americans), of 360 kt, the thirteenth of the 17 of the operation Redwing.

2000 - In Mexico, Vicente Fox becomes the first opposition candidate to defeat the Institutional Revolutionary Party in a presidential election.
