SHIELD OF FAITH

Text: “Above all, taking the shield of faith wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” Eph 6:16

I want us to look carefully at certain words in the scripture above. Let’s start with the word ‘quench’, it literally means to extinguish or put out; just as we put out fire. This suggests to us that we have the responsibility to quench the fiery darts of the devil. The next major thing for us to see in the verse is the fiery darts of the wicked. The word is translated as fiery arrows of the devil in another version. The devil is always throwing his arrows; it comes in various forms. Arrows to hinder the plans and purpose of God for our lives. Arrows to harm and damage precious things in our lives. It could be an arrow of thoughts of discouragement. Thoughts that say you will never amount to anything. God’s word shows us that we can quench, we can extinguish every arrow of the wicked in whatever form they are thrown at us. We are not victims to the arrows of the wicked; we can stop them.

The weapon of stopping the arrows is the shield of faith. This is no longer up to God; it’s up to our faith. Taking the shield of faith means something that we consciously do.
A shield is something that protects or defends. We all need this defence in life. Faith is a shield of defence. Every time we raise it up a defence is raised up against the arrows of the wicked. Each one of us has that responsibility to raise up the shield of faith on a daily basis. The devil will always be busy doing his own job of throwing the arrows while we must also get busy raising our shield; at no time should our shield go down.

Taking the shield of faith means taking up the word of God in our mouths and expressing our confidence in what God has said concerning our lives. The physical shield is raised up with the arm/hand while the shield of faith is raised up with your mouth declarations. You are a victor.

PRAYER:
I raise up the shield of faith today. I declare that no weapon formed against me will prosper. I bring into captivity every thought against my life.
