May Beetle or a European Chafer
These beetles are tough to distinguish in their larval stage to the untrained eye. Not sure what this actually is, but I think maybe the European Chafer. It's now found in temperature North America, but was previously only found in Europe.
Something like this does not go unnoticed, what happens is that we look at it and we better move away, it looks dangerous , better be careful of something like that
You're right. I had a visceral reaction to the way it looks, and hesitated a bit before I picked it up.
