Cuando hablamos de viajar y conocer siempre se supone que se haga un recorrido en tierras que no son lasnuestras, para poder aprender de su cultura, y sidfrutar de sus paisajes, sin embargo ha muchas personas que por estar visitando lugares ajenos no conocen aquellas estructuras con valor historico en su propia ciudad!!

Entonces el disfrutar de una aventura no quiere decir que nos tengamos que ir lejos o arriesgarnos a entrar en sitios prohibidos, a veces solo toma el estar atento a nuestro alrededor y observar lo que la mayoría pasa por alto, y descubriremos mas de una joya oculta.

Ami me pasó, una mañana que estaba acompañando a mi hermana a realiza unas diligencias en el centro de Maracaibo, ella, tenía que esperar y le dije que iba a caminar por allí, estaba en la Plaza Baralt y allado de un centro comercial veo una iglesia que me pareció muy bonita y que no coincidía con el resto de locales a su alrededor, almomento no atiné a tomar una foto a su fachada, pero les muestro una imagen de referencia:

A pesar que me estaban esperando, como vi que estaba abierta decidí entrar y allí si pudetomar una imágenes de su interior

Como soy Cátólico aproveche y recé un poco por mi familia y luego observé que al lado de la capilla estabn unas instalaciones de un convento, y pude tomat un par de fotos antes de irme:

Luego indagué un poco sobre la historia de este hermoso templo ubicado entre tiendas en plena laza Baralt y comprensí que era la Iglesia San Francisco de Asis, (mi abuelo tenía ese nombre) y fué construido entre 1669 y 1730 y durante mucho tiempo sus instalaciones fueron utilizadas como un convento, como una escuela e incluso como la primera sede de la Universidad del Zulia. fuente

En lo particular me alegra poder concontrarlo abierto y aunque no soy específicamente de Maracaibo voy a tratar de volver pronto a este pequeño santuario, que tiene mucho valor histórico pero que no se le da la difusión que se merece.

As I am Catholic I took the opportunity to pray a little for my family and then I noticed that next to the chapel there was a convent, and I took a couple of pictures before leaving:

Then I inquired a little about the history of this beautiful temple located between stores in the middle of Baralt street and I understood that it was the San Francisco de Asis Church, (my grandfather had that name) and it was built between 1669 and 1730 and for a long time its facilities were used as a convent, as a school and even as the first headquarters of the University of Zulia. source
