The foundation stone of the park built on the basis of the current project of Rajshahi City Corporation was laid on 9th February 2005. However, the construction of the park started in February 2004. On February 1, 2006, the park was opened to the public on a trial basis. Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan officially inaugurated the park on 25 February 2006.

Shaheed Zia Children's Park (Zia Park) spent more than 11 crore rupees. Covering an area of 12.21 acres, the park has 70 games play of 19 items. Items are Merry Go Round, Mini Railcar, Monorail Sky Bike, Flume Rides, Octopus, Super Swing, Bumper Car, Bumper Boat, Kiddie Rides, Physiological Games, 3D Movie Theater, Pedal Boat, Bouncy Castle, Horse Ride, Frog Jump, Honey Swing, Paratrooper, Tea Cup and Battery Car.

The beauty of the park has been enhanced by creating artificial hills in the middle of the lake. Two bridges have been constructed on both sides for mini rail cars to pass through the mountain. The two-storied building has offices with a beautiful entrance gate resembling the face of a strange animal and an ice house. There is a prayer room on the second floor of this building. The boundary wall studded with various fauna and crafts is eye-catching. There are separate toilets for men and women, two separate dressing rooms at different places inside the park. There are three counters on three sides for tickets to enjoy the items inside. The exit gate of the park resembles an octopus.
