Wednesday – I spy with my little eye – Mini contest (87)

in Steem Kids & Parents2 months ago

Hello SteemKids and Parents!

Here we are on another Wednesday.

I woke up from a terrible dream this morning. Not only was I being chased by a vicious dog, but I dreamed it was Thursday. I woke up with a shock. I forgot to do the “I spy with my little eye” contest!
It took me a couple of minutes to remember that it was Wednesday and not Thursday. Oi!

Let’s start today’s game by looking at last week’s clues.

1. It is a 12-letter word starting with “L”
2. It is a compound word
3. Water is a must
4. Offload and upload

And the word is... “LONGSHOREMAN!”

Before I get to tell you about the meaning of the word, I want to mention the reason why I’ve chosen it.
In the past, I have only included compound words, which consist of two words. It was time to show you that compound words can be more than two words put together to form a new word.

For those of you who don’t know what a longshoreman is, let's dive deeper.

A longshoreman is a waterfront manual laborer who is involved in loading and unloading shops. (Wikipedia)

I found an interesting article on Wikipedia that takes us through the history of longshoremen or dockworker, another name.

Image Source

Ancient times: Longshoremen were used to manually load and unload cargo from ships.

Medieval period: With trade increasing, the manual work of longshoremen increased, and it was often dangerous.

Industrial Revolution: With the revolutionization of transport, it was important that longshoremen find ways to change the way they were working. We also see the birth of unions that protect the rights of these workers.

Containerization: With the introduction of container transport, the work of longshoremen had to change, and machines and cranes were introduced to lift the heavy containers.

Modern era: Even today, longshoremen play a vital role in ports all around the world. They now guarantee the efficient movement of goods.

For the third week there is no winner!

That brings the prize for this week to 6 STEEM

Time for your next game!

The game is exactly like last week;

The game “I spy with my little eye” is sort of a detective game. The “spy” is the person who sees something, and the rest of the players must then guess what the spy is seeing.

Of importance, it must be something that you can see and not something you can feel, like an emotion.

BUT, “I spy with my little eye” is so much more than just a spy game;

  • It is a thinking game
  • It teaches you how to use your logic and reasoning and
  • It grows your vocabulary

The contest

For today, I am going to give you the letter with which the word starts plus 4 points, or “clues,” that you can take into consideration to figure out what the word can be.

Ready or not… let’s learn, play, and win!

I spy with my little eye something that begins with the letter “O"

1. It is a 13-letter word
2. It copy something and

4. It can have a dramatic effect

Haha! 10/1 the kids might get it right before the adults.

I thought long and deep, my children said I should give up, still cracking my brain over vocubulaire I lack, just like logic thinking ...

Too much = over
Copy = producing
It captures something = ?

So all I cN do is leaving you before the deadline with: overproduction
