The Wonders Of The Garden - Gazania

in GEMS4 years ago

I remember when I first saw this flower. He was on a vacation at sea. At the Black Sea. But it's harder to remember what year it happened. Anyway, in the last century.

The only way to remember as accurately as possible is to relate to my son's age. When I saw these flowers, on vacation at the Black Sea, my son Alexander I think was then three or four years old. He is now 38, so 35 years have passed since then.

Every year I went to Mamaia, the most famous resort on the Black Sea, in Romania. That was until 1990. There I saw floral arrangements with Gazania. I was immediately captivated by this flower.

In my opinion it was a tropical flower and I was very surprised to see it in my country. I was looking for information. That's how I found out that Gazania is a crawling flower (?) and is native to southern Africa. There are only 16 species which I think is very little, other flowers have hundreds or thousands of species (orchids or roses).

Reading more I also found out the secret for which the seaside was decorated with this flower. Gazania is a plant that has a long life and is resistant to salt (?).

I really wanted to have Gazania at home and the only possibility was to collect seeds. I went to the sea at the end of the season, towards autumn, and so I was lucky to find seeds. In this way I managed to have Gazania in the garden for a while. Then I lost them.

Now, after 35 years, I have Gazania in the garden again, actually in the yard ... Now it's much easier, a visit to the market where I find seedlings and that's it. Easy and simple!

Now I have some Gazania flowers in my little yard. I enjoy these flowers. I like them a lot because they are sun lovers. If the sun does not appear then Gazania does not bloom, the flower does not open. I like.
