Trying Pungko Ta Poy's Fried Food Selections | 50% to @sf-charity | #club5050

Hello Gourmets!

Yesterday at lunchtime, I and my coworkers headed on over to the newly opened eatery near our workplace. It's one of the recommended budget-friendly eateries in town. It tops and gets a 5-star rating and great reviews from Cebuanos who'd been there.

Well, the eatery is named Pungko Ta Poy, literally a Pungko-Pungko business that's well-known here in Cebu. You possibly wouldn't know what this is if you're not from here or anywhere in the Visayas. So, here's a little about it

Pungko-Pungko is a street food stall that sells fried food in random assortment. The frieds commonly include Lumpia, Chicken, Pork, Meatballs, Longganisa, and the famous "GINABOT" - our take on Chicharon Bulaklak (Pork cracklings) that's made from pig's intestines.

Pungko is Cebuano's term for crouch or squat that which is basically how the customers sit when eating in one of the Pungko-Pungko stalls. The customers have to be slouching while eating since the benches offered usually are so low. Later on, the kind of business has developed and been adopted widely that from stalls along the streets, there are now a number of Pungko-Pungko inspired restaurants where one can comfortably dine.

Pungko Ta Poy's newest branch is in Mactan where we had our lunch yesterday. It's just a small restaurant that could only cater to a maximum of 20 persons at a time.

INTERIOR

The first thing that caught my eyes as we entered the restaurant was their art on the wall which gives me the impression of how the Cebuanos enjoy the local cuisines.

Pungko Ta Poy welcomed us with their traditional vibe, from their lighting styles down to their wooden furniture and dishwares.

FOOD SELECTION

With Pungko Ta Poy's wide array of frieds, you can definitely taste nothing but authentic Filipino fried foods. They also have desserts, sandwiches and cold beverages to match your fried choices.

Here are what I got:

Ginabot set, the best-selling.

Tempura

Each order comes with their side dish "Atchara" (Pickled grated green Papapaya)

This is so far one of good dining experiences I get to try this year. Have you tried it too? How do you find it? Care to share?

That would be all for now. Stay tuned!
