A Brief Introduction Into The Swiss Cuisine (With Four Traditional Dishes)

in SteemFoods7 months ago

Hello there, fellow Steem users worldwide as well as dear readers from both Steemit and outside of it! For today's only post here on Steemit as well as on the SteemFoods community, I decided to write a brief introduction into the Swiss cuisine, a very interesting and delicious Central European cuisine.

Although I haven't yet travelled to Switzerland or tried any dish from the Swiss cuisine (apart from Toblerone when I was a kid, if that counts, heh), I still love how the Swiss cuisine looks like through some photographs of some really delicious dishes, most notably the well known fondue but not only, of course.

The main point of this post of mine is to briefly describe a couple of traditional Swiss dishes to the best of my capabilities and share some beautiful photographs depicting them in the process as well. Therefore, without any further needless ado on my behalf, let's get started below!

Fondue

Perhaps the most well known traditional Swiss dish is fondue. Promoted as a national Swiss dish as early as the 1930s, fondue was subsequently popularised in North America in the 1960s. It is basically melted chess and wine served with bread, but, as rudimentary as it might seem, it is just as tasty and satisfying. Best of all, you also get to share with your favourite people which adds a very beautiful get-together layer to the entire culinary experience!

Fondue is not only a quick snack, it is actually served as main course and it's a staple dish of Swiss cuisine. I bet it tastes so good! 🙂

Rösti

Moving forward, the next dish that deserves our attention is Rösti which is basically a fried potato cake. Once again rather rudimentary and easy to cook but delicious and fulfilling nevertheless. This traditional Swiss dish traces its roots from the canton of Bern but is served nationwide across Switzerland and abroad. It consists mainly of potatoes but sometimes cheese, bacon, various herbs, butter, and other fat are also added in order to make the dish more complex and tasty (and, simply put, not bland).

Pizzoccheri

Contrary to its somewhat misleading name, this dish has nothing to do with pizza but rather with pasta. Pizzoccheri is not only a traditional Swiss dish but a northern Italian one. It is basically a tagliatelle type of pasta made of buckwheat flour and wheat flour. The percentage of buckwheat flour in the composition of this pasta is overwhelming, more specifically at 80% whereas the wheat flour accounts only for the remainder of 20%.

Magenbrot

Lastly, we reach our final culinary destination here with Magenbrot. Magenbrot is a glazed biscuit which is not only served in Switzerland (more specifically in northern Switzerland) but also in southern Germany. It is similar to gingerbread. It literally translates to 'stomach-bread' as it is believed to improve digestion and stomach health, being traditionally served during Christmas time at the local Christmas markets in Switzerland and Germany.

That was all for my brief introduction into the Swiss cuisine with the aforementioned and previously described traditional dishes. I truly hope you liked this post of mine, found it interesting as well as well worth your time! Thank you very much for your time, attention, readership, consideration, and positive feedback here on Steemit! All the best, take care, stay safe, and have a wonderful autumn along with your dear ones!
