Hoysala Architecture

During my visit to chikmagalur on a relaxing holiday, I paid a visit to this architecturally amazing place where Lord Shiva in the name of Amrutheshwara and Devi Sharada are present.

Ancient India was ruled by many rulers. One among that is Hoysala Dynasty. The Hoysala king Veera Ballala had built this marvelous Hindu temple "Amruteshwara Temple" located near Chikmagaluru district, Karnataka state, India.

Temple is built according to Hoysala architecture with a wide open hall called as Mantapa. It has a outer wall with unique equally spaced circular cravings. And this temple has one shrine that's why its called as Ekakuta design and has closed mantapa that connects sanctum to the large mantapa. All the Hoysala temples you can find this type of architecture.

Specialty of this temple is the large stone inscription near the porch contains poems composed by medieval Kannada poet Janna who had honorific Kavichakravarti. And also Ruvari Mallitamma, the well known sculptor and architect is known to have started his career here working on the domed ceilings in the main mantapa.
