History and modernity. City on the Great Silk Road

in Steemit City3 years ago

Holy Trinity Cathedral, the temple was built in 1762 and was the very first stone building in the Trinity Fortress.

This summer I spent a lot of time studying the historical old part of the city, trying for myself, as much as possible to learn about the historically significant about my city. So I have been doing this for more than one year, but this summer I decided to slightly expand my knowledge of the old buildings, which still remained the same as they were during construction in the 18th-19th centuries. Thus, I am now collecting material for my future book about the historical past of the city, which is located on the Great Silk Trade Route. There are still many historical buildings in the city, which have been perfectly preserved to this day. Architecture has different styles, there is both modern and classicism - fashionable in the years of the outgoing 19th century. Many buildings were built by architects from St. Petersburg, Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod. Every merchant of the 2nd guild wished to have a better home than the merchant of the 1st guild who lived next door to him. So in the city, buildings are more beautiful than the other. Well, there is no need to talk about the decor - all buildings are decorated with graceful wrought iron gratings, somewhere with tiles and even paintings. This is how my time passes - this summer ... Where this summer did I ... study city streets and architecture in my city, where I have lived for many years!

Passage - Trading house "Brothers Yaushevs" in Troitsk. Until 1917, the trading house traded with all of Central and Central Asia and European countries.

The city of Troitsk was founded in June 1743 as a fortress of the Uyskaya fortified border line, on the left bank of the Uy River. The fortress was located on the main caravan route that passed from Asia to Europe. Opposite the fortress on the right bank of the Uy River, an exchange yard was built, which existed until 1915 (first wooden in 1749, then stone in 1822), border customs (1749) and closed in 1868 (according to other sources in 1863) in connection with the abolition of the Orenburg customs district. By the decree of Empress Catherine II (November 1749), a trade fair began to work in Troitsk in May 1750, which was held annually from May to October at the Exchange House, the turnover of which grew rapidly and reached 2.5 million rubles a year. The famous merchant Grigory Bashkirov's hotel, built in 1909 - was built in just 10 months! The merchant bet that he will build it in 1 year.

Gradually, trade moved to the city center with the construction of Gostiny Dvor (1866), banks, trading houses, a hotel and public buildings, which radically change the appearance of the city. The city is becoming a pearl of architecture in the South Urals. In May 1774, the fortress became the arena of the Pugachev uprising, was taken by storm by Yemelyan Pugachev. Pugachev did not stay in the fortress, but settled down one and a half versts from the city on a mountain that now bears his name. Troitsk becomes the cultural center of the South Urals. Parish schools, elementary schools, a district school (1830), a parish school (1839), a women's school (1861), and a school for Kyrgyz (Kazakh) children (1861) were opened. The women's school in 1870 became a gymnasium. In September 1873 a classical male gymnasium was opened in the city. (taken here: https://troitsk74.ru/history/)
