Weekly Report as a Country Representative from Nigeria

in Steem POD Team2 years ago

Introduction

The month ends in a bit, it's quite obvious that we are in the last week of August as such this would be my last report for the month. Over the previous weeks, I have been engaged in a few interesting tasks to make the journey on Steem quite interesting for people from my Country (and others), taking them through different ways to operate on the platform acceptably. Let's me walk you through my report for the week.

Training for Newbies

Newbies often find it hard to do the right thing at the beginning of their journey on Steemit, maybe not intentional but they have failed to distinctively differentiate Steemit from other social media platforms, I have seen most of them dropping junks over time. In the early days of the just-ended week, I co-hosted a training session for newbies with another CR (ngoenyi) from Nigeria and the venue was Telegram.

My part of the training was to enlighten users on a few similarities between Steemit and other social media platforms and how Steemit is largely (uniquely) different from them. I walked them through basic things that make Steemit distinctive and why they should aim at producing quality content all time, in addition, I explained the importance of club initiative on Steem and why they should take it seriously to join.

The training was adequately supported by some of the articles I have written previously and I believe this would go a long way to limit the mistakes that are usually committed by newbies (and even existing users). My partner also did exceedingly great handling her part, a total of 10 users joined the session which lasted about 2 hours.

Interaction and Screening

Over the previous days, I have visited articles made by Nigerians to leave quality comments on them. In the Steem4Nigeria community, I have not only made comments on articles but I have screened several articles published in the community. I found a few new accounts that are wandering around with inappropriate articles and are guided to move to the Newcomers' community to get verified first, and leaving my Telegram ID for a user to contact me for more guidance.

That said, all the inappropriate articles were muted while repeated offenders who have failed to adjust after several warnings from the MODs/Admins were muted because they seem not to be genuine users (some share links that are likely to be phishing attacks).

Phishing Attack Tutorial

Scammers have been around us in the ecosystem, and falling for their tricks has always been a disastrous thing, they have been utilizing phishing links to tempt users over time. Newbies are most vulnerable to such because of a lack of information about such attacks, I have created an article within the just-ended week on how to check the real address of a link before visiting. I have made it comprehensive as much as possible and it's suitable for all users.

I will like to suggest that the Newcomers' community add a guide on Phishing attacks under the Achievement 4 task which is based on basic security on Steem, this would teach new users what phishing attacks are, in their early days in the ecosystem and would reduce the number of victims falling for the trap.

Burnsteem25 Contest Result

The contest I organized in the previous week has ended with 3 participants who made great efforts to show their commitment to #burnsteem25 so far. At the end of the contest, I thoroughly checked the entries and verify the claims of each participant. A total 9 SP was shared with the 3 participants in the contest. Below is the contest result announcement:

Curation

Curation has been an integral part of my daily activities as such I have adequately utilized my Steem Power to support Nigerians and others (predominantly Nigerians). I have been part of manual curators that handled the curation using @steem4nigeria to support Nigerians on Steem, as the account has its Voting CSI to be 14.0 ( 0.00 % self, 153 upvotes, 74 accounts, last 7d ) at the moment.

I realized the #nigeria tag is not sufficient to locate articles written by Nigerians as most might not include it in the first 4 tags ( or at all) as such I visited several communities to find more articles published by Nigerians, for effective use of resources on my country people. In addition, I utilized the SC05 account to curate Finance and Technology articles last weekend. Let's take a look at my account stats below.

No. of Articles7
Club#club75
Owned SP17,735
Voting CSI17.0 ( 0.00 % self, 161 upvotes, 89 accounts)

For the new week, I will be committed to contributing my quota to the growth of users on the platform through proper guidance on the need to improve their quality, be part of initiatives and support other people. In essence, I aim to get more involved in Steem activities this week.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this is the end of my report for the week and essentially the last for the month, it's been a great one so far. I have shown a few of the activities I have engaged in for the just-concluded week which range from cleaning the ecosystem to having more quality content and guiding users on how to stay safe amidst scammers' attacks, and more. Thanks for reading through.

This past week was activity packed. The lesson we held for those newbies was worth it as they all expressed their joy in the end.

That tutorial on attack awareness is very timely.

You are really doing great. Keep up the efforts. Nigeria is proud of you. Another week is here and I can the activities you have already mapped out. Being fully involved in steemit activities and encouraging users to create quality contents will really help. We are in this together. When are we holding the next tutorial? @fredquantum
