Choices! What will it be? #55

I bring you greetings, dearest Steemians. This week's contest on choices has five items on it; rope, punch, circle, milestone and mystery. My choice for this week is Milestone.

A milestone can be said to be a very important and significant occurrence in one's life. It entails the point at which one has been able to achieve a set goal or goals.
Hitting a milestone entails a lot ranging from setting goals, determining to achieve those goals, putting in place principles that would enhance the achievement of the set goal or goals, getting to know the rules governing the set goals and how those rules affect the achievement of set goals, the setbacks attached to the process of achieving the goals and doing all one can to make sure that through practicing the set principles, understanding the rules and minimizing the effects of possible setbacks, one can hit a milestone.

There are no milestones without set goals. Goals are those specific objectives set down by individuals or group of individuals for achieving. Setting goals is very important in the process of achieving a milestone because;

1. They act as roadmaps to the individual or group of individuals intending to achieve a milestone.
2. It helps one to plan intensively on how to achieve the milestone.
3. It helps in assessing and evaluating each action taken in the process of achieving a milestone.
4. It gives on a sense of purpose.
5. It acts as a source of motivation.
6. Setting goals brings about active participation.

Setting goals is not just enough to achieve a milestone. One has to come to a place of absolute determination, being discipline and dedicated to make the best out of the goals one had set.

Determination entails having a resolution that no matter what one faces in the process of achieving a milestone, one will still forge ahead to get to achieving that milestone. Motivation and inspiration fuels determination. Without determination, one might fall off the course of achieving the milestone he wanted.

Discipline is an attribute that helps keep one focused in the course of achieving the milestone. Without discipline, it is difficult for one to stay focused and avoid distractions that would only prolong the achievement or shatter it entirely.

Dedication has to do with putting in all the work needed to get to that point of achievement. It has to do with working diligently in line with the rules of the process, giving in the required amount of time and resources and making sure that all the set goals are followed through to the end.

When one achieves a milestone, the importance of the achievement is not for him alone but for others to learn and also dream to get more achievements done. Some importance includes;

• It brings about the motivation to achieve more milestones.
• One becomes an inspiration to others who are aspiring to achieve a milestone and needs motivation to do so.
• It helps one to develop the act of discipline.
• One gets dedicated with every endeavour he engages in.
• Achieving a milestone enhances self confidence.
• The process helps enhance critical thinking.

Being a student in the higher institution, I have always wanted to ace my examinations in my previous semester. I knew I had a lot of work to do and needed the right motivation to carry on with the process. I stumbled on a publication of a student who made all A's in 5 different semesters I got the motivation I needed and went to work.

I had to download the necessary reading materials from Google, made my timetable, downloaded tutorials from YouTube, followed through diligently with the timetable, gave in extra periods to understand the courses better and at the end of it after writing examinations, I was able to ace my examinations. I was really proud of myself.

In essence, achieving a milestone is not easy but is worth the while.
