Hello, lovely friends. Another week has passed; this time, what should I choose?

One of my colleagues from Sri Lanka wrote about the parade and requested me to select my word. When I read her post, I wanted to speak about the parade in a different way. Therefore, as a proud Sri Lankan lady, I decided to speak about our 'Aragalaya' parade, which represented Sri Lanka's People's Movement for Justice and Accountability.

Yes, it is the story of a historic event that shook the nation and brought to light its people's worries about corruption and injustice. I'm sure you've all heard about the Aragalaya protest, which was a nonviolent movement that effectively removed the country's top leadership.

The Aragalaya parade was a historic event that shook the nation and highlighted common worries about corruption and injustice. It started with the farmers when Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksha requested them to switch over to organic farming. As Sri Lanka faced a foreign currency crisis, the president reduced the import bill by prohibiting the import of chemical fertilizer and urged farmers to practice organic farming. However, farmers who previously used chemical fertilizers were unable to produce a satisfactory harvest using organic farming. They faced a lot of problems when they didn’t get a good harvest and they could not tolerate their financial needs, with the lack of harvest. That is where this ‘Aragalaya’ begins.

This parade, which means ‘awakening’ in Sinhala, served as a powerful weapon against the administration of then President Gotabaya Rajapaksha and his brother, former President Mahinda Rajapaksha. It is a grassroots project fueled by the collective frustration of ordinary Sri Lankans who are fed up with the massive corruption of the Rajapaksa Regime.

The flame that lighted the Aragalaya Parade raised nonviolent voices against the Rajapaksha Regime. It stranded against allegations of corruption and nepotism, the decline of democratic freedoms, the government's mishandling of public resources, and disrespect for the rule of law.

When the message spread via social media and word of mouth students, activists, professionals, and ordinary citizens joined together. They flocked to the streets in nonviolent ways, waving banners and posters demanding accountability and transparency from their leaders.

It's more than simply a parade; it's a celebration of unity and solidarity. People from many backgrounds joined together, putting aside their differences to fight for a common objective of justice. They marched through the streets with unwavering determination, screaming slogans and singing songs of protest.

The young were at the frontline of the Aragalaya parade, carrying the torch of change. They were the ones who organized rallies, leading and mobilizing support through social media campaigns. Their energy and enthusiasm refreshed the movement, encouraging others to join the struggle for a better tomorrow.

When the Aragalaya parade grows in strength, it draws the attention of the international community. The protests were reported by news sources and human rights organizations all around the world, bringing attention to the rising discontent in Sri Lanka. Then, international pressure increased on the Rajapaksha administration to address common grievances and implement genuine modifications.

However, the path to justice was not without obstacles. Peaceful protestors were attacked with tear gas and batons, and several were illegally locked up and harassed. The government responded to the protests with harassment and injustice, sending in security forces to suppress anger and restrict opposition voices.

However, the government was unable to halt the Aragalaya; people in the parade marched forward without pausing, refusing to back down until their demands were fulfilled. Sri Lankan Aragalaya serves as an example for people suffering similar struggles across the world.

Finally, the Aragalaya achieved their goal and drove out the Rajapaksha Regime. Later, they began shouting for system change and increased transparency, as well as the strengthening of democratic institutions and the fight against corruption.

This Aragalaya parade highlighted that ordinary citizens can affect their leaders' responsibilities. Furthermore, it gave people all across the world a valuable lesson about how to succeed by speaking out against corruption peacefully.

Saludos y bendiciones.

Yes, I recall the day our former president fled under the pressure of millions of people gathering in the street with posters and banners. I, too, was there that day with my friends and two sons; we couldn't bear it any more. We were all unarmed, and we did not do any harm to our public property or to any humans. That is a rally-specific feature.
Thanks for reading my post and your lovely support.

First of all, I would like to thank you for my invitation to participate in this competition. I really enjoyed reading your post. It is really a struggle of our youth, old and young, regardless of race and religion. I think it is our "struggle of unity". I really think that there is no other country full of comforts like our country.

Actually, when I read your post, an indescribable set of emotions flooded my mind. Live in my country which resource is less. Environmental pollution is much less than other countries. If my country, which was self-sufficient in agriculture, was not destroyed by power-hungry politicians, the innocent people of my country would be living happily even today.

In fact, in every vehicle on the road, there were not fighters but people who loved the country. On that day, the entire Gallumudoora was taken over by people who loved my country. I strongly condemn the inhuman attack on the innocent patriotic struggle members by thug political gangs.

Even today, I reject the crooked politicians who have crippled the lives of innocent people in my country. Also, the heroic youth who risked their lives for the struggle will never be forgotten. I pray that my country will not be prejudiced by such politicians again.. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your publication for the struggle. 🙏
