Assalamualaikum all of my friends. How are you all? I hope you all are well. I am also fine. Today I am going to participate in our "Steem For Bangladesh" community's engagement contest of week 3 on the topic "National Festival of my country". Today's topic is quite splendid that's why I love this topic and present my engagement post to you.

What is the national festival of our country and how did it start?

The name of the national festival of our country is "Bengali New Year" which has been organized in our country some time ago. This special national festival is held on Pahela Baisakh, the first day of Bengali month, in which people of all religions, castes, castes participate and present the old Bengali traditions. In this special event, some of the old traditional games of Bangladesh can be observed which is quite enjoyable.

Ever since the independence of Bangladesh, the Bengali New Year festival has been celebrated on the first day of the month of Bangla, which is still happening today. This event is a special and enjoyable event not only for Bangladeshis but for Bengalis all over the world.

How is this festival celebrated?

This festival is generally observed by preserving the Bengali tradition. On this day, women wear colorful sarees and decorate vegetables, and men wear dhoti or different colored clothes of Boishakh. Basically on this day fairs are organized in different parts of Bangladesh where several traditional events are presented to the people. This wonderful festival is celebrated by wandering around the fair, eating the traditional food panta hilsa, watching the traditional sports of Bangladesh and claiming to be an authentic Bengali.

Are there any special clothes and food for our national festival?

There are special dresses for our national festivals that men and women can be seen wearing on the streets. For men there are Baishakh designed dhoti or genji and for women there are special New Year sarees that Bengalis wear to celebrate these occasions. But not everyone wears this dress but some Bengalis also participate in this festival by wearing other colorful clothes of their choice.

On the other hand, talking about the food of this special day, the names of traditional Bengali dishes come up which are pantabhat and hilsa fish. Bengalis have a long-standing tradition of eating Pantavat and Ilishfish on New Year's morning. Also with the variety of delicious food at the outdoor shops, this day becomes a special day for food lovers.

What was my favorite memory from my national festival celebration?

One of my favorite memories of Bengali New Years Day was during New Year 2004 when I enjoyed the New Year horse race with my grandfather on the bypass road 1 km west of my house. That day for some reason I got away from my grandfather in the crowd of thousands of people and got lost. I was only 6 years old then and after a long 7-8 hours my family breathed a sigh of relief to find me. Since I was young and this moment of being lost and regaining family was exhilarating for me. My grandfather passed away in 2006 so that New Years day will be more special and memorable for me.

Greetings Dear @mdkamran99
Pahela Boishakh is a festival of life in our country where all people celebrate this festival together. This Bengali festival holds a tradition of our country. You have explained beautifully about Pahela Baisakh. As a child you got lost watching the horse race on Boishakh day. It is a sad memory of you. Good luck to you.

The first day of the month of Baishakh is known as Bengali New Year to the people of Bangladesh. The Bengali New Year makes its debut by washing away all the gloom of the old year, ending the worn-out fatigue. After the introduction of the Bengali calendar, various ceremonies were added to the New Year celebrations. Nawabs and zamindars introduced 'Punyah' to collect rent. Now it is extinct due to lack of zamindari. Halkhata was the second major event of Pahela Boishakh. On this day, the customers would pay the remaining money to the shopkeepers. But currently the most interesting aspect of Bengali New Year is the Boishakhi fair. Boishakhi fair is celebrated in different regions of Bangladesh. Bangladesh's largest Boishakhi fair is held at Ramnar Botmul in Dhaka. Millions of people gather here. Its formality begins with Mangal Seva Yatra. Best wishes to you.
