It's a long story of the public lighting that used streetlights to make it easier and secure to walk the streets. In the 15th and 16th centuries the cities of London and Paris were forced to impose that at night the houses exposed a lit lantern. Then came the lamps fed to oil and then to gas and, finally, the electric lighting as we know it today.

Many cities have personalized this element and inserted their symbol, becoming in this way a very distinctive element for the city.
The oldest lamps are very elaborate but among the more recent ones there is no lack of desing elements that denote modern times.

Preserving these elements of urban furniture is very important because they testify to the taste of a city in a precise period.

The street lamps next to a fundamental and useful function are also an interesting element of urban furniture and every city and every period has been able to interpret this object with wisdom and elegance. Various shelf models or bracketed, simple or candelabrum lamps are always an element of charm of our cities.
And they always attract the attention of our cameras.

Looks historical type

I love how you can see the differences between all the street lights. Some look gothic while other look more modern. Its interesting to see how time passes. Beautiful pictures!
