Theater play by Istanbul City Theatres 🎭 #club100

I went to the theatre that is The Curious Case of Cemal, son of Rüstem. It is a theater play by Istanbul City Theatres. The theatre play tells the journey of a family who was exiled from their homeland in Crete, in the last period of the Ottoman Empire, to Istanbul. Sometimes funny, sometimes sad but warm stories of Rüstem, Cemal and other people in their lives are told.

Both the writer and the director of the play are Cengiz Toraman. In the play, the modern theater techniques and the meddah style (public storyteller) are combined. Meddah is an artist who entertains and makes people think by making imitations and telling stories. One of the great arts of the people's power to caricature events, the public storyteller has lived for centuries and has attracted a lot of attention among the Turkish people. Meddah is a one-man (solo) theater.

So, the actor is very important. As you can appreciate, a single-actor theater for 75 minutes requires great mastery. This role was played by master theater actor Levent Üzümcü. It transitions quickly and perfectly between many different characters. It was also an interactive theater and its communication with the audience made us feel included in the game. The technical team was also very successful. There was the orchestra backstage and the lighting crew did a great job too.

Unfortunately, Üzümcü was unfairly removed from the Istanbul City Theaters. If you are someone who questions, thinks and criticizes, unfortunately, you are in danger from politicians. There were good developments as a result of the political change, and Üzümcü returned to Istanbul City Theaters with this theater play.

As Director Toraman says in the play, "displacement is the greatest pain. A person can't bear this much pain. If it were not a human but an iron mountain, this pain would burn, melt, and ashes him." He says, and we can say that this theater play is the return of Üzümcü, who was displaced from his homeland, to his homeland 😊

It was a theatre play that made you experience many emotions, make you laugh, make you sad, encourage and make you think. Liked it very much 👏
