Naturaleza de los noticieros | Newscasts' nature [esp-eng]

Recuerdo cuando era pequeño y observaba a mi padre atender el noticiero, era sin duda un momento de reverencia en el hogar muy cercano a la hora del sueño. Nunca presté mucha atención en esos momentos, era tan solo un balbuceo de nombres, lugares y pérdidas de dinero. Recuerdo a aquellos locutores famosos: Jacobo, Lolita, López-Dóriga entre algunos otros. Era el mundo de los adultos, un lugar de ecuanimidad y decoro tras el caos lúdico de las caricaturas y el dramatismo de las telenovelas y sus personajes memorables. Era muy claro lo que era verdad y lo que le pertenecía a la fantasía.

I remember when I was a child and watched my father attend the news, it was undoubtedly a moment of reverence at home very close to sleep time. I never paid much attention in those moments, it was just a babble of names, places and money losses. I remember those famous news anchors: Jacobo, Lolita, López-Dóriga among some others. It was the world of adults, a place of equanimity and decorum behind the playful chaos of cartoons and the drama of soap operas and their memorable characters. It was very clear what was true and what belonged to fantasy.

Tuve un tiempo en que no presté ninguna atención a lo que pasaba en el mundo de los noticieros, era mi adolescencia y trataba de encontrar más bien mi identidad, valores, gustos y la vocación que finalmente me habría de guiar en el tránsito por los escalones de la sociedad hasta aquel éxito profesional que me estaba destinado, al menos así me lo repetían mi madre y mis hermanas. Me tardé bastante en encontrar este camino y entretanto todo eran ensueños de un joven de entre veintiuno y diecisiete años. Todo seguía igual de todas formas en el mundo de los adultos, unos seguían queriendo cambios y equilibrios, otros seguían siendo corruptos o narcos. Recuerdo muy bien que un día de aquellos mataron a un candidato a presidente.

I had a time when I didn't pay any attention to what was happening in the world of newscasts, it was my adolescence, and I was trying to find rather my identity, values, tastes and the vocation that would finally guide me through the steps of society to that professional success that was destined for me, at least that is how my mother and my sisters repeated it to me. It took me a long time to find this path, and in the meantime it was all the dreams of a young man between twenty-one and seventeen years old. Everything remained the same anyway in the adult world, some continued to want changes and balances, others continued to be corrupt or narcos. I remember very well how one of those days they killed a presidential candidate.

Los ensueños de mi universo fantástico juvenil se rompieron después de un 11 de septiembre de 2001, un día que con certeza conmocionó a todo el mundo. Creo que lo he comentado ya muchas veces, pero mi campo de realidades y entendimiento de los mecanismos sociales se vio comprometido al preguntarme cómo habían podido recuperar aquel pasaporte intacto después de tanto fuego, dónde estaban los restos del avión del Pentágono, qué pasó con aquel tercer edificio colapsado. El terrorismo sería el fantasma a quien todos debían temer en lo sucesivo, te decían en las noticias hora tras hora.

The daydreams of my youth fantasy universe were shattered after September 11, 2001, a day that certainly shocked everyone. I think I've already commented on it many times, but my field of realities and understanding of social mechanisms was compromised when I was asked how they had been able to recover that intact passport after so much fire, where were the remains of the Pentagon plane, what happened to that third collapsed building. Terrorism would be the ghost that everyone had to fear from now on, they said on the news hour after hour.

La guerra se avivó, la empezaron pronto con mucho dinero y discursos de odio, hace poco terminó después de veinte años, pero sabemos que sin ninguno de los resultados deseados, sino todo lo contrario. Veo a los noticieros absolutamente confundidos entre los malos y los peores, disfrazados todos de defensores de los derechos humanos, todos exigen más bombardeos o ejecuciones. No importa ya, estamos en un punto en que dónde aparece un cese al fuego en algún lugar del orbe, se inflama inmediatamente el conflicto en coordenadas distintas pero casi siempre por los mismos motivos.

The war was fueled, they started it early with a lot of money and hate speech, it recently ended after twenty years, but we know that without any of the desired results, quite the opposite. I see the news broadcasts absolutely confused between the bad and the worst, all disguised as human rights defenders, all demanding more executions and bombardments. It doesn't matter now, we're at a point where a cease-fire appears somewhere in the world, the conflict immediately flares up at different coordinates, but almost always the reasons are the same.

Los noticieros están más dedicados hoy a censurar las voces que disienten que a informar de manera imparcial nuestras complejas realidades. Están, desde lo que alcanzo a ver en este proceso mío de madurez, comprometidos absolutamente por las mismas corporaciones y partidos a los que deberían analizar críticamente. Se les ve regurgitar desesperados el tema del dinero que les paga, sin importarles la confusión y desamparo de los ciudadanos. Jueces de la moralina, policías del pensamiento obediente, los noticieros se han vuelto una costra del mundo contemporáneo, cada vez más lejos de la verdad y más afines a la farsa y la propaganda de obscuros intereses.

Today's newscasts are more dedicated to censoring dissenting voices than to impartially reporting our complex realities. They are, from what I can see in this process of maturity of mine, absolutely committed by the same corporations and parties that they should critically analyze. They are seen desperately regurgitating the issue of the money they are paid, without caring about the confusion and helplessness of the citizens. Judges of morality, policemen of obedient thought, the newscasts have become a scab of the contemporary world, increasingly far from the truth and more akin to the farce and the propaganda of interests which are obscure.
