PARTITIONING OF AFRICA

Hello Steemians,I would like to talk about partitioning of Africa.

Before 1870,a couple of factors prompted lack of European interest in the establishment of effective colonial rule in Africa.

There was a policy of laissez faire which envisaged free trade with other countries without claim on the land.Besides some of the European powers were deeply pre-occupied elsewhere and therefore did not have much time for political interest in Africa.

Italy and Germany were also involved in European wars and had no immediate plans for colonization in Africa.

It was after 1870 that the European powers changed their attitude towards Africa.Between 1876 and 1900, these powers extended their political influence to every part of the continent.
