Bujinkan Fists 指針拳 Shi Shin ken and 指端拳 Shitan ken Preview
From https://www.rojodojo.com A preview of my video exploring the Bujinkan Fists 指針拳 shi shin ken and 指端拳 shitan ken. We continued our study of 宝拳十六法 hōken juroppō with 指針拳 shi shin ken. This is a strike with the little finger. In Japan, if you form this fist, a local might think you are using your wife (or mistress) as an excuse to avoid partying with him. Of course, if a yakuza makes this sign, he might indicate the mistress has been beheaded!
We explored many kyusho around the face with this strike. My students were surprised by the amount of pain I gifted to them with just one small finger. It is rumored that Takamatsu Sensei used to smash small rocks with this strike.
Next we looked at 指端拳 shitan ken. This is striking with the fingertips. There are many variations of this fist and I demonstrated four or five. I began with a knife hand, using the extended fingers like the 切先 kissaki of a sword.
Then I used the kata 括拷 kakkō to explore other variations. In this kata, Hatsumi Sensei says we should strike with ittou santou. This is one strike with the power of three.
The three fingers are bound together in one instant. Then as they drive in, They claw and hook to 3 different kyusho around the throat. From your right to left (opponent’s left to right), 一時 Ichiji (or 左禁 sakin), 時 ji (or murasame), and 三当 santou (or 右禁 ukin).
Next I showed the same form using three fist variations first with 三指一突踊拳 sanshi ittotsu yoken and 午角拳 gokukaku ken. Then one that Soke calls 暁角拳 gyokaku ken. All of these create slightly different results in terms of pain or the way it affects the opponent’s structure.
