Greetings!

I am so glad that I am still one of the Graphic Design Students in Steem.Skillshare. I learned a lot of things already from the previous season that I have already been applying in my posts here on Steemit. Now, in this season, I am again very eager and ready to learn another set of new information in the hopes of becoming a good Graphic Designer.

The first lesson was presented very well by @atim1234. He discussed about Visual Communication Design. I believe I have fully grasped the lesson already so it is time for me to share my answers on the assignment given.

Homework 1: Visual Communication Design

As what I have understood in the lesson, Visual Communication Design is a tool to communicate using visual elements such as images, videos, shapes, icons, text, etc. to inform and answer certain ideas.

Its main functions are to give direct identification, to provide information and instructions, and to promote or advertise.

Visual Communication Design is the ultimate picture in visual design while Graphic Design is only a branch of it. To explain this further let me cite examples of Visual Communication Designs:

Short Films/Documentaries
TV Advertisements
Graphic Design

The 3 examples I mentioned above are examples Visual Communication Designs. Graphic Design therefore is only a subset of Visual Communication Design.

Visual Communication Designs are primarily used in the following:

Identification Methods - Companies use Visual Communication Design to be identified by the customers immediately.
Information and Instruction Facilities - Infographics are best example for this. It uses visual elements such as icons, shapes and text to give important information about a certain topic.
Presentation and Promotion Tools - Companies use visual communication designs to promote and advertise their products. These designs utilize visual elements to communicate to the customers instantly.

Graphic Design is used in various fields. Here are few of the examples:

Education - Schools use infographics, maps, diagrams and other graphic designs to relay certain information for the class or outside class.
Business & Marketing - Marketing Officers and Business owners use Graphic Designs to promote a product/service.
Health Facilities - Clinics and Hospitals use health-related posters to give information about a certail disease or illness.

I picked banner number 3 for Analysis:

Type of Banner	Infographic
Elements Used	Colors, Illustration, Typography, Shape
Communication Conveyed	Information about 10 ways to help an elderly and/or people with underlying conditions
Type of Design	Informational
Focal Point of the Image	The List (10 Ways…)
Hierarchy	In the banner we can directly see the Title of the Banner, then the list of the ways to help an elderly and/or the person with underlying conditions, then we will also notice the illustration which coincides with the topic and then the additional information on the lower part of the banner.

Conclusion:

I have learned that Graphic Design is only a subset of Visual Communication Design. And in order to be a good graphic designer, one must learn and understand Visual Communication Design because it encompasses the general idea of visual design.
