2 Minutes with the Farmer: Multi Species Grazing

in #homesteading6 years ago

Today on 2 Minutes with the Farmer we are talking about multi species grazing. What is multi species grazing? Well you will have to watch the video to find out. Here in Central Kentucky we use multi species grazing as a pasture management tool here on our farm. It has been a great tool and would recommend it to anyone with more than one type of animal on the farm.

Thank you for watching and spending 2 minutes with me!

Such great advice with this one. We can't keep out goats out of our cows area.

Thanks for watching

Guess what @dtube did today for me? Yep the same thing as every other day..oh well I'm about to stop trying! I'm sure you said something interesting and from the looks of it you showed off some more animals!

First time introducing goats with cows one of the goats got kicked in the face and he dropped and rolled. Wasn't hurt but made me a little leery about it but they got use to each other and do well now. It only seems to be a problem when I have a pesky male that wants to try and breed a cow. Cow usually wins that one.

That is a crazy problem. I have never ran into that one;)

I'm always learning watching your videos Bo. Great stuff.

Thank you sir!

Why aren’t you lecturing for UK’s AG Dept.?

howdy there @bowentroyer! man..ya'll have the biggest weeds there, those cattle almost disappeared in that forest! those goats will take care of that though.
hey I didn't realize this very practical, logical method of multi-species grazing, that is so good!
but what if you have two species which like the same kind of plant, or do they all like different plants?
outstanding video..well, I couldn't see all of it but the teaching part is outstanding!

We do have huge weeds here. Goats and cattle are a great mix. Sheep like more grass so they compete with cattle more for food.

ah ha! so I did actually ask a pertinent question..yes!
I think that happened last week also so I'm on a roll!
So you can't just throw any old animals together and expect them to do the job that the goats and cattle do. you have to think before you act.
thank you sir!
