Seed Drilling Your Garden

I’m a city girl and when I plant my garden it takes me awhile and I start from by transplanting starter plants. I haven’t taken the time in quite a few years to sow seeds.

So when my boyfriend tells me we’re planting beans by drilling the garden... I’m a bit confused.. in my naïve brain, I honestly pictured him taking his deWalt drill and drilling little holes in a straight row and us planting beans. This is going to take forever!!!

When I show up at the farm, he is already done and kicking dirt on the beans and asked me to help. I was a bit frustrated for two reasons, we were supposed to do this together and there weren’t any holes! How’d he get done so quickly?!? “I used the drill,” he said! “No, you didn’t,” I thought!

I had to verbally admit to him that I was confused and had no idea what he was telling me. So, he walked me over to this and said, “this is a drill”!

(No, that’s the tractor, this is the drill 😂 and Poot!)

Then he opened the top, which I couldn’t figure out how to do (to show you all) and he said, “do you like my plastic cups?!”

He said you fill this up with seed and then the seed falls through those holes.... now I understand, because I watched him do the grass.

“So instead of you filling the bin with seed, you cut the bottoms out of these cups, placed them in the holes and filled them with the different beans you wanted to plant?!”

“YESSSS!!!” 😀

“Okay”, I said, “that was a good idea!”

Slowly but surely, I’m catching on to the farm life AND his wild ideas!
