Dismantling our Old Cherry Tree Part One
It's Time for Our Cherry Tree to Go.
Sadly our cherry tree has almost completely died and it's time to take it down. It's not a huge tree, but it's quite a job chopping it up and cleaning all the branches and sticks.

The tree is weeping a beautiful sap. I've been collecting it as a memento of our old cherry tree.

We knew we were loosing this old tree, it was on our property when we bought it and it was already very sick. We tended it for 4 years trying to get it back and we had one good cherry crop in that time, but this year 3/4 of the branches were dead sticks and what was remaining was quickly drying up. We decided this year to take it down.
We planted two cherry trees on the other side of the yard several years ago, since we knew we would likely loose this one. Because the other trees are maturing, they are already beginning to bear fruit!

I hope you kept most of that tree. Cherry wood makes one of the best choice's of wood for smoking meats. It costs a small fortune to buy. Just 4 pounds of it can cost $10. Cheers and good luck to your newly planted cherry tree's.
howdy there @ironshield! this looks a little too easy to me. what's wrong with an axe? it's a great work out! lol. I didn't think the tree would be producing so much sap if it was dead. But I don't know anything about them except I love cherries!
The electric chainsaw made the job very easy. The wood was so dry and brittle it cut very easily. A portion of the tree is still alive, one branch still has leaves. But even that little branch is weeping sap. I think the poor tree is done. That space will be well used someday, perhaps for a firepit. @ironshield
