Jacob Goes Off Grid Day 19 Part 1
This is a video from Day 19 of going off-grid. I went 'off grid' five hundred and seventy-two days ago and it has been quite the journey since I got dropped off at this old fallow farm and built (continue to build) all my own infrastructure. I have been video documenting the entire process and have just recently begun publicly sharing some of the videos. I have been sharing the videos privately since I started the entire process which I call Jacob Goes Off Grid In The Woods. 'Day 1' is the morning after I arrived at this little place in the mountains in the 'dead of winter' on January thirteenth of two thousand and seventeen with my dogs, my wits, minimal gear and very little hard currency to work with. Slowly I have done my best to breathe life into a very old farm and give it all my best, 'learning as I go', and documenting the process as best I can. This is another fireside video. Earlier on this day I get a twenty watt solar panel and a deep cycle battery and after rigging the inverter in my un-interruptible power supply to the battery I am able to charge a laptop and copy all my videos off of my phone onto it. During the process I realize that the previous eighteen days of videos had all been shot sideways and that I would have to find a way to correct it.
I talk about getting more five gallon buckets with lids to store stuff in and also getting a bunch of canned goods donated to me. I talk about how the canned goods are high in salt and sodium and not really ideal to 'live' off of. I also talk about the other groceries that I got while I was out picking up my solar panel and battery.
I briefly talk about how it is good to leave a site at least once a month.
I talk some about the things I have done for being able to wire up my solar panel the next day. It was a total hack job but it worked other than the light switch that I later deleted from the setup.
In this video I am pretty stoked that I finally have a solar panel and deep cycle battery.
As always this is just a summary of the video's content and not meant to explain everything that I cover in the video.
