The Greenhouses Are Still Producing

I know that may come as a shock to you, because you've probably heard that Canada is a frozen tundra, but we are really fortunate to live in one of the mildest climates in the country. Our friends have already been dealing with frost and snowfalls for a month elsewhere in Canada...we're still sitting pretty. Sorry guys...not rubbing it in!

The trees let us know it is fall though!

What's Going On In The Outside Gardens?

IMG_1047.JPG

Lettuce I've been collecting seed from for the last couple weeks, still more to grab too.

IMG_1046.JPG

Still harvesting a few new beans from this jungle, mostly it is all seed now though.

IMG_1045.JPG

Oregano is still rippin!

IMG_1044.JPG

The beans I planted at the end of August, I will only end up getting a few off of them, I planted these too late.

IMG_1043.JPG

Sugar peas I also planted at the end of August, these will give me some peas, they can do a lot better in cool weather than beans do.

IMG_1039.JPG

Got kale everywhere still. Mostly feeding chickens lately hahaha...

IMG_1035.JPG

Greenhouses sure lengthen the growing time of tomatoes. This is what my outdoor plants look like...eek!

The Greenhouses

IMG_1041.JPG

This tobacco just started growing out of the root/stalk of the massive tobacco plant I had harvested a while ago :) I accept!

IMG_1021.JPG

The big greenhouse, you can see the tomato plants in there are still green.

IMG_1022.JPG

A crap tonne of hollyhock seeds!

IMG_1023.JPG

I worked in the big green for a while today, removing all the tomato stakes and picking all the tomatoes I could find, green ones too.

IMG_1027.JPG

A lot of the cucumbers and tomatoes I will let drop and seed themselves. I did that last year and I got a tonne of tomato, tomatillo and cucumber seedlings out of it!

A Compost Pile

As you can see the chickens like to turn it for us hahaa :)

The Tomato Haul

I'll be putting all of the green ones in cardboard boxes with lids on. If you do that, and don't have them touching each other, they will all ripen without moulding.

Supper

IMG_1058.JPG

Chicken cacciatore made with our own chickens that we raised of course, and started tomorrow's soup with the bones left over.

Thank you, as always, for witnessing my journey.

Epic homesteading babe. That Chicken Cacciatore looks so yummy.
The autumnal scenery is truly beautiful, I really can't wait to see the winter scenery, I bet it's magical on a clear day. 😉

Only another month or so to go and you will be seeing the ice and snow photos!

Can't wait babe 😉

Perfect weather to keep growing and stocking up on those lovely vegetables etc, before it gets too cold for you. Whereas November through February will be hot as hell for us. 😂

Yeah eh...what a trip!! I hope you're having a nice spring @thegoliath :)

Considering it hasn't been hot that much and decent weather, yes I have been! :)

I'm glad to hear it!

I think your garden is beautiful! The first harvest picture in your post looks similar like mine from a few months ago - I think I had my last yellow picadilly (a resilient variety) two days ago. DSC00312.JPG.

May I ask, what's the red fruit on your last photo?

Looks like it may be "bittersweet nightshade" ...

Beautiful harvest, looks very similar to mine :) The red berry I'm not sure what it is, you're the second person to ask me, I will try to find out. All I know is that we don't eat them, and the birds just LOVE them!

Perfect, thank you very much! At first I thought it's a goji berry, but I noticed the leaves that look a little like those of datura and other plants from Solanum genus. Anyways, beautiful plant, flowers are stunning... Talking about the big in the small... Maybe I decide to grow it next year for the beauty and the birds!

Aww, your little feathered family will appreciate it! I see the robins come every February in search of what's left and there are usually some still about!

I look forward to your posts! The pictures you take, showing your garden in close up, the delicious meals! What amazes me most is your climate and what you can produce at this time of year! WOW! Thanks for taking us along @lyndsaybowes!

Thank you Momma! What kind of climate do you live in?

Very cold winters, Fargo, ND

It looks like your garden is still doing pretty good. It would be nice to have that long of a season. My carrots are about the only thing that's still alive here.

Mmm but I bet those are some tasty carrots!

It was the luck of early november, there has been no frost. If tomatnya much I also want hahaha ....
Good luck ...

Every day is a blessing @heriadi :)

I'm glad to see your land is still producing and bringing a wonderful harvest.

Thank you very much David <3

What are the berries in the last photo?

I'm not sure, but they are for birds <3 <3 <3

Damn! they look pretty good.

I love the tomatoes all over the windows. :) And the baby oak trees! <3
My oregano is still happy outside as well, as well as the Tree Of Peppermint!

Awwww! Hugs for your little peppermint and oregano! xoxo
