A Modern Humanure and Composting System - SAVING WASTE AND MONEY

This week we got a question about our humanure and composting system that we use on the homestead. A husband and wife are building their homestead and undoubtedly faced the huge price tag of a septic system. Could their be another way?

So they sent us a message and we responded with a video to show our system and how we work it. A properly managed humanure and compost system is a cost effective and safe way to save and produce compost material. This material can be used for fruit trees or landscaping projects.

We have been using our humanure system for over 5 years now. We have compost bins at various stages in our system so that you can see the break down process.

Safe For The Environment

There is also an amazing amount of research material available on the internet. A search for "Humanure Study" will bring up a vast amount of research and published studies from Universities and independent groups. Many of these studies give clear scientific backing that a well managed humanure system is safe and beneficial for the environment.

ENJOY THE VIDEO!

Do you have a question for the homestead. Maybe we will make a video about it. Thanks Amber for sending in your question. You can find out more about Amber and their homestead at the following link.

I always thought since humans also ate meat, the manure wouldn't be as good as herbivores who ate only plant products. Nonetheless, this is great and the waste is recycled into reusable products, instead of going to treatment plants. Love it!

There are several I follow on YT that have great systems that work well for them, the key is getting educated on it before you do it! Tweeting..

Human waste can be very dangerous if parasites get in the mix. I can’t imagine this working on an industrial scale because of that danger. Apparently a huge portion of North Koreans are infected with worms because they use human waste on their stare farms. Gotta be careful! :)

The problems arise because its not being cooked down. Getting the waste over 150 degrees will kill most anything that will harm in you in your waste.

Great and useful post on a subject most of us would rather not deal with until it's too late. Thank you, thank you.

I should start selling mine, i'm just pooping for free

LOL That can be your new slogan like PP's "Don't Post for Free" @ironshield

Our experience with outdoor flushless toilets a few years back wasn't a bad experience at all once we got used to it. @ironshield

outhouses have been used for Millenia.

Seems like a great way to use your wasta.

Composting toilets are definitely the way to go! We have different friends who have ingenious systems but sadly, with our aging parents on the homestead with us, flush wins that battle!

Awesome job! We use a biofilter system for the main house but I want something a little different for the guest house and a future house for my son and his family. I think this system would work just fine for my purposes. Enjoyed the video and found it very helpful. Thanks.

Great job as always, I just love your father in law he does things right.
