One of today's projects: mapping the yard
Today farmer Sam and I made a map of the backyard.
It's pretty rough, and may be off a few feet here and there, but this sums it up.
Black shows hard lines: property lines, fences, and structures. Structures are labeled.
Orange shows gates.
Brown dots mark locations of trees. Trunks only, not effective coverage. Trees are labeled by number and explained in lower left.
Green shows garden beds.
North is to the right, and this is the back yard only.
With scale, I seriously overestimated the work we have done. I want about four times this much growing area! Lol
I'm headed out to mow the alley with Farmer Sam. Before and after will be posted later, probably with a quick steepshot post.
Hope you're having a productive Saturday on your homestead!

I made a new map.
Wow! Your herb garden is as big as your house! 😍
Do y'all produce all of your yearly food with that, or what percentage?
House measures 18' x 16' (old side) and 20' x 24' (new side) so 768 sq ft roughly. New Herb is 50' x 37' so 1850 sq. ft. so yeah, bit bigger... :))
Yes we raise about 75 - 80% of our own food for the year.
Having a map of the available space and orientation is really important!
I'd add in the tree coverage, as this will severely impact you growing ability.
Here's my yard:

This is an old map and doesn't show the 50' x 37' New Herb garden in the front yard. It also shows trees and gardens that used to be, and are no longer. I guess I need to update it....
