HOW TO COUPLE AND ADJUST YOUR METAL HACK SAW TO ACCOMMODATE A NEW BLADE!! WITH IMAGE ILLUSTRATIONS

in #how-to6 years ago

Do you really know how to couple a hack saw for cutting metals? Do you know that your metal hack saw can be adjusted to suit different blade sizes?
And do you know that the blade teeth is fixed to a particular direction for faster and efficient cutting?

Have you been a little frustrated about not knowing how to use and couple simple tools and it made you feel a little useless around your home? Trust me, if you decided to learn about one simple tool each week, your confidence will increase with even repairs!

So, today on ‘Engineering photography’,

We’ll be learning how to adjust and couple the metal hack saw to fit in a new blade (hack saw for cutting metals. The difference between metal and wood hack saws is the blade teeth size. Wood hack saws has a larger cutting teeth).
I have made it pretty easier by adding lots of image illustrations.

Let’s get along. I’ll be adjusting to reduce the overall length of the saw to fit a shorter blade.

Step 1

Unscrew the Nob of the saw holding one end of the blade. This will reduce the tension in the blade and enable you remove it from the anchor.

You can see my hand on the Nob. The anchor holds the blade.

While unscrewing, make sure the washer doesn’t fall off. The washer helps for better tightening and fitting, so keep it where it won’t roll off. The washer is a circular piece of metal with a hole in the middle.

Step 2

Remove the blade from the anchor on both sides.

Step 3

Remove the round head screw. It holds the saw handle and the arm together. It is mostly unscrewed in the counter clockwise direction

Step 4

Now that you have unscrewed the round head screw, the arm of the saw should be free to move. If it doesn’t, just shake it a little.
Pull the handle of the saw (white colored metal) and the arm (blue colored metal) towards each other maintaining a straight path till it gets to the hole in front. Yours may have more holes in front. Just pick the hole you want depending on your intended reduction and your blade length.

Step 5

Replace the round head screw and screw down till it’s tight.

Step 6

Now, fix the new blade on the two anchors. Off course shorter than the old one in this case.
NOTE that the direction of the blade teeth should point towards the Nob (the direction of the blade teeth should point opposite the handle)

Placing the blade this way, brings about a faster and smoother cut with the saw as the cutting action of the blade is in the forward direction of the to and fro cutting motion.

Got a metal hack saw that takes too long to cut, you probably have to check the direction of the blade teeth. If it is facing the right direction, then the cutting edges are blunt and needs to be replaced. (This also applies to the wood hack saw)

Step 7

With the blade teeth direction set, put back the washer and screw in the Nob.

Thanks bro. Happy you spent time to go through.

Well done, ot was straight to ths point. As a lady I can now do this myself.

I'm so glad.

Very nice and concise post, well done....although I don't really use saws on a daily basis ;)

Lol. You may use it someday. Thanks alot for coming around.
