RE: Largest Human Trafficking Case in Kuwait History Sees 3,000 Arrests

in #humantrafficking6 years ago (edited)

I caught a doco on this a while ago, and I believe it was slavery of foreign workers in the UAE. With their passports taken away, they were essentially imprisoned in the country until they paid their debts for some unjust employment scheme. The exploitation and conditions they lived in was inhumane and terribly upsetting. :(

As a child of immigrant parents who came to Australia with nothing, my parents worked from dawn to well past midnight. Apparently, dad used to fall asleep on the toilet because he was so tired. I still remember trips to the tip as a child where we’d scavenge for stuff. But we were lucky, we were always together, they took us everywhere. I don’t even know how they managed with 4 kids. They saw being employed as a great opportunity, so I can appreciate the desperation and feel a lot of empathy for these poor people who just want to feed their families. It makes me so sad to read about this stuff.

A good article @krnel.

Thanks for sharing your story.

Yup the middle east is a new hotbed for this shit. The treatment they undergo is immoral, and all for the traffickers to make $. Evil pieces of shit...
